Friday 55 & Da Count- Vipers and Gifts

FRIDAY 55

The serpent lay frozen and unmoving on the snow.
A woman saw the snake and had mercy on it.
She picked it up, held it to her breast to share her warmth.
The viper began to wriggle before suddenly biting the woman.
The woman cried out and asked why.
The viper hissed, "It is my nature."

DA COUNT

Without going into detail I will say I was "bitten by a viper" yesterday. It was a particularly deep bite. It hurts quite a lot but I should not have been surprised. Vipers don't often turn into teddy bears nor are they given to displays of gratitude for mercy shown. I will count Logo for lending me an ear, John Michael for reminding me of the story of the viper, a mysterious and sagacious "neighbor" who offered supportive affirmation, and a precious friend (who reads this blog but cannot comment) just for being there with love. I will also count Calypso who, when she came home and found me in my distress, chose to extend me mercy by offering her shoulder and a hug at a moment when I deeply needed just that. Rest assured I would not repay any of those gifts with venom.

I know how it can hurt. I don't know if it is true in your case, but maybe the viper doesn't know how to react to kindness because she/he has experienced very little of it and was in distress. Some were brought up to equate warmness with weakness, and learned that weakness is something to hiss at.

  10. A snake is a snake is a snake is a snake.

    End of story.

Sometimes the snake brings its friends along and they bite you too.
Sometimes the snake bites you and other people just sit back and say you deserved it.
I am happy that you have the support that you needed to get through your day.
Now I have a song for you and for everyone that knows a snake. It's a jazz classic.

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Oh well," she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"
"Take me in oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk
And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk
Now she hurried home from work that night as soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taking in had been revived
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

Now she clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful," she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
Now she stroked his pretty skin and then she kissed and held him tight
But instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

"I saved you," cried that woman
"And you've bit me even, why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman," said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

    Have a lovely day.

  12. Sorry to hear this, of course. But, isn't it nice to know you have such good relatives and friends to help when stuff like this happens? :-)

Also, this may or may not brighten your day a little bit: You are entitled to an award over at my place. Please stop by and pick it up!

  13. I'm presuming 'viper' is a euphemism for something/someone else? Anyway you got the message over and I'm sorry you were bitten. x

  14. It is sad someone would bite you. You have always been so wonderful. I am glad you had a wonderful support system around you when you needed it the most and yea Calypso. They sure can surprise you sometimes.

*hugs* to my favorite zip line epxert.

  15. You probably don't need advice right now, but I hear that ice-cream is pretty good for snake bites. I'm just sayin'.

  16. We use to cut off the heads of snakes with shovels when we were kids...I might have a shovel somewhere still :)

    Love ya!

I'm glad that you have such a good support team. However I am thinking, that we are a lot alike, always willing to cuddle up to a viper...and really only getting bitten occasionally. Thats our nature.

  19. i'm sorry...at least you had friends/family to help you through.

  20. My dove...so sorry to hear of your distress. I would say around a month ago the same thing happened to me. It bit to the very bone and poisoned me sick. I'm just now starting to get over it. You have my sympathy and love :)

  22. I am proud of you for your choice to let go of the altogether human inclination to bemoan the behavior of One who returns an act of kindness with a venomous response. Your election to tend to your own healthy and functioning betterment is a good thing to see. "The nature of the beast" is, indeed, always an appropriate element, of every equation, to consider, and pay due respect to.

I do love you (doncha know)

  25. It's almost impossible to prevent a snake bite. The problem lies not in lowering our guard and opening ourselves to people It is in disovering the deception in someone's heart before their fangs pierce ours.

  26. Offering friendly hugs... And remember vipers usually strike when they are frightened.

  27. Oh, oh, oh. Love. I am angry for you and with you--and I actually urge you to hang on to the anger and not let it condense into mere "hurt." Anger can motivate you to make things change, right?

Hurt makes you think you actually did something wrong.

    Poop on the whole thing.
