FRIDAY 55
Silently
beneath the surface
pressure builds,
plates warp,
cracks form.
Busily,
above the surface,
we go about our day
thinking we know
who we
and they
are,
what we will do,
where we will go.
Suddenly,
the ground rolls,
heaves,
and tosses us
without regard.
We are left wondering
about all
we thought
we knew.
Trini...
ReplyDeleteI think about that every day.
Brilliant observation.

ReplyDeleteSo true So true!!
ReplyDeleteThe earth holds onto its secrets, no matter how hard we try to learn them.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if something like that pops up in your yard or mind, you're going to be questioning a lot of things.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling having experienced earthquakes first hand. Good picture and poem Michelle - Dave
ReplyDeleteWritten by someone who has been through an earthquake (or two), I presume! If not, you have an excellent imagination for reality.
ReplyDeleteGreat writing!
ReplyDeleteFrankly during such times tequila comes in very handing allowing me to ponder events.
I hear your e wry thought....even those not written....Ibelieve we both are experiencing emotional earth quakes right now...and it does make it feel as though the earth itself is heaving us to and fro..... Excellent poem, yet again. We will survive!
ReplyDeleteAwesome observation and scary too.

ReplyDeleteSo much going on that we know nothing about...
ReplyDeletePearl
We know a little bit about seismic shifts out here on the Left Coast, both the literal and the figurative... oh, yeah and the virtual.
ReplyDeleteGreat, evocative poem.
ReplyDeleteI've been thru a few of those earthquakes, myself. . .
Thanks.
Okay, that's enough. You simply MUST stop writing about my life.
ReplyDeleteNature has a way of reminding us our place, doesn't she ~

ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I'm not sure if you were writing literally or metaphorically, but obviously you've hit two nails right on the head! Bravo! Here's mine: New Deal
