Thanks for the good history, and the good music!

Canadians do have a much nicer anthem than we. I rather like the tune of the Star Spangled Banner, actually, but maybe that's my love of the Hendrix version coloring others :-)Suldoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07778845367184916684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17765202.post-33656303893111347992010-02-24T13:22:50.652-05:002010-02-24T13:22:50.652-05:00Couldn't we rewrite our song to simply say &qu...Couldn't we rewrite our song to simply say "Buy now, pay later"...that seems to encompass America these days...Ed & Jeannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00730956006290504616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17765202.post-14441943203375731632010-02-24T00:21:44.358-05:002010-02-24T00:21:44.358-05:00It is a fine anthem with wonderful sentiment. If you get to hear the Norwegian anthem for a medal take notice of the winner. Normally we sing our anthem, and most athletes do sing it and if you listen close you can hear the Norwegians in the crowd sing too. We never have a star sing it, its for the people to sing.DianeCAhttp://dianecasmetamorphoses.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17765202.post-34166825115415683812010-02-23T14:34:15.593-05:002010-02-23T14:34:15.593-05:00Big surprise: I'm totally with you in loving ...Big surprise: I'm totally with you in loving to watch the athletes as they hear their anthems.

Also, I don't think it's at all unpatriotic to not like your national anthem. And I'm a little hard-pressed to account for it; I'm tempted to chalk it up to slavery, but, as you point out, other countries had slaves, too, and yet don't have the level of racial tension that we've had here. . .

I love 'O Canada', too. We've taken a couple vacations in Canada over the years, and so we were afforded the opportunity to learn their national anthem, which, as you say, is beautiful. I've got a bit of Canadian 'ancestry' myself, and my brother's wife is Canadian. So, every year, on Canada Day (July 1) we call her on the phone and sing 'O Canada' to her. Which just delights her, and is a bit of fun for us, as well. . .

And I remember Hasely Crawford (T&T's one-and-only Olympic Gold Medalist); I think he also ran track at Eastern Michigan U, which is just down the road a piece from us. . .Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12044041773404411751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17765202.post-77094774369699064872010-02-23T09:18:10.862-05:002010-02-23T09:18:10.862-05:00hey - i just found out i'm a beret wearing str...hey - i just found out i'm a beret wearing streaker who sleeps in lingerie and resembles a bedroom...who'd a thunk it?
