The Joys of Boys

Friday night was the first football game of the season. It got a little cooler than I expected. Well, ok, not really. I told Isaac to take a sweatshirt but then forgot my own. I curled up against him when I started getting chilled. He took off his sweatshirt and draped it around my shoulders. I said, 'Oh sweetie, thank you for being such a kind gentleman.' He intoned, 'I'm not being a gentleman. I just want you to get off me.'

Later that night when we got home he headed out into the dark. I asked where he was going. He said he had to pee. I told him we have indoor plumbing for that. His repsonse? 'Mom, I am a boy. The world is my toilet.'

Each of these statements was punctuated by the sideways glance with the slightest hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth that I have come to expect. He's such a goofball.

  1. Sounds to me like he may be a goofball, but he's not full of the typical teenage rebellion. I think you've probably raised a good one.

Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree :-) I admit there is a slight different here Lime, but you raise him well!

Btw: Are we talking about football, football? I mean the sport when you mostly use your feet?

Much to the chagrin of my wife, my son expresses the same sentiment whenever she gets to close to him in public.

  17. Sounds like you are going through the same thing I am with my "little" boy. He is growing up too fast for me! In the past three months his body is becoming more young man like, he is filling out every where! His actions towards me are also changing, I am not supposed to touch him in public unless he makes the first move and you know how that goes. He doesn't even like me to give his head that motherly rub in public..sheesh what is with these kids? LOL!

I am feelin' ya on this Lime!

  18. My sister joined me on Friday night to cover the home opener with me. She even had her trainer's bag with her so I didn't have to take mine :) It's high school football season!! YEAH!

And at the reception this weekend...ALL the guys were "checkin' the trees".

  19. Wait a minute. Weren't you just talking to me on a cell phone from the baseball games? What gives? They have OTHER sports nowadays?

  20. By the way---since the world IS our toilet, that is why we pee on oysters.

  21. Why do they do the "world is my toilet" thing? I guess because they can.

    Sounds like a sweet kid.

  22. beach bum, the decrease in PDAs is a sad thing

breazy, oh yeah the boy hormones are hitting here too

moose, LOL, they never grow out of it do they?

gawpo, this time of year we have soccer, football, marching band, and baseball all taking up our time.....my head is spinning! is that a sport?

tlp, yes, i am pretty sure it falls under the mt. everest line of reasoning...because it is there and because we can, oh and i am pretty fond of the kid ;)

    Exactly.

And disagree with Cooper. I'm 37 and barely have any gray hairs. If Junior was a girl, I'm sure my hair will be almost all gray. Boys raise themselves. Throw a football at them and that's quality time.

  25. LOL! they are different in many ways, you cannot compare them with girls, Yet I feel that ppl with girls have been more nervous than those with boys. So they must be easier to handle. I guess mothers have a lot less trouble with boys than they have with girls!

  26. Why did you have to mention toilets! Damn tummy bug......

    ReplyDelete
  27. cooper, i'll grant you my son is younger but so far (and we haven't hit deep adolescence with him yet) the girls are the ones who give me the hard time. we shall see what the future holds

zombie, so that explains my rapidly greying hair...thanks.

mona, it's the moodswings and the mouthiness that gets me with my girls

cathy, oh, sounds unpleasant. hope you are feeling better soon.

  28. Limey,
Yes...you do NOT hang out all over your boy in public...
And His philopsphy on pissing is quite sound!!
    Funny..xoxox

  31. The song, "The World is a Ghetto" is running thru my head....with a much different chorus:

    "Dont you know,
    that its true
    I gotta go
    Number 2
    The World is my potty"
