Slice of Lime-One Hand in My Pocket

Next in our Slice of Lime musical series is Alanis Morissette. I've been rediscovering her lately. I didn't connect with her so much when she first got big but lately...yeah, much more so. I like this one and it lends itself to coming up with obvious pictures (good for a frazzled brain). And hey, this whole set stars Janita (my formerly mangled left-arm for the new folks out there), which is a miracle all by itself.

I'm broke but I'm happy
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful baby
What it all comes down to
Is that everthing's gonna be fine fine fine
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five

I feel drunk but I'm sober
I'm young and I'm underpaid
I'm tired but I'm working, yeah
I care but I'm restless
I'm here but I'm really gone
I'm wrong and I'm sorry baby
What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be quite alright
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other is flicking a cigarette
What is all comes down to
Is that I haven't got it all figured out just yet
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving the peace sign

I'm free but I'm focused
I'm green but I'm wise
I'm hard but I'm friendly baby
I'm sad but I'm laughing
I'm brave but I'm chicken shit
I'm sick but I'm pretty baby
What it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is playing the piano

What it all comes down to my friends
Is that everything's just fine fine fine
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is hailing a taxi cab...

~Alanis Morissette~

(For those of you wondering about yesterday's field trip I hope to have a report up tomorrow. I prepared this Slice of Lime last week when I had the idea. Last night I was way too fried to get a post together about the field trip when I got home. Good day though.)

  12. This is one of my favorite "Slice of Lime"'s.

Hmm, that may or may not be grammatically correct?

And how funny is it that you were talking about termite farts!! Your house has got to be a laugh a minute!! :)

  13. Well, I didn't enjoy reading about the time you broke your arm, but I certainly did enjoy the way this post revealed another layer of Lime.

I have always thought that Alanis rocked the world!

  15. I love Alanis' lyrics. I think she's coming out with a new album too.

The photos intermingled with the lyrics are awesome. I could so see a series of these made into a coffee table book.

  18. Glad to see Janita is looking so good and functioning so well these days, Michelle! I have to say, you tend to do things in a BIG way when you do them!

Funny, when I have one hand in my pocket, I could usually care less what my other hand is doing... ;-)

I'm fascinated by Mona being in the nude when she remembers Alanis singing "Thank You, India". That's pretty HOT!! ;-)
