Slice of Lime-On the Road Again

School is back in session so I am back to the ghastly early mornings. (click through to a shocking scene of early morning horror) It also means the Mom Taxi gets fired up and has many miles logged on it. I've tweaked Willie Nelson's On the Road Again lyrics to fit my situation a bit more.

On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I live is drivin' kids to see their friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again

Goin' places that I've been
Seein' things that I will often see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way

And our way
Is on the road again

(What's going on back there? Don't make me pull this car over!)

*There seems to be some confusion regarding when this picture was taken. The car pics were taken yesterday at roughly 4 PM meaning I had plenty of time to wake up and be a presentable and functioning person. The link in the first sentence of this post takes you to the image of the horror that is me at 5:30 AM.

  1. That look on your face in the first picture seems to say, "Look Out, I am one serious b*tch when I get behind the wheel, don't be messin' with me."

    AWESOME!
    :-)

  2. Yup, the "going places i've been and will see a million times again" pretty much sums it up!

Love the Willie adaptation, I will hafta sing it fer the (ahem, i loves them) brats. They hates it when I sing and their friends can hear me. Kinda like, "Momma cant cha comb yer hair, put a bra on, or somethin?"

  5. & your lyrics remind me of some other lyrics :

    and she takes another step
    slowly she opens the door
    check that he is sleeping
pick up all the broken glass
    and furniture on the floor
been up half the night screaming
now it's time to get away
pack up the kids in the car
another bruise to try and hide
    another alibi to write
    another ditch in the road
    you keep moving
    another stop sign
    you keep moving on
and the years go by so fast
wonder how I ever made it through

and there are children to think of
baby's asleep in the back seat
wonder how they'll ever make it
    through this living nightmare
but the mind is an amazing thing
full of candy dreams and new toys
    and another cheap hotel
two beds and a coffee machine
but there are groceries to buy
and she knows she'll have to go home

    another ditch in the road
    you keep moving
    another stop sign
    you keep moving on
and the years go by so fast
wonder how I ever made it through

another bruise to try and hide
    another alibi to write
another lonely highway in the black of night
    there's hope in the darkness
I know you're gonna make it

    another ditch in the road
    keep moving
    another stop sign
    you keep moving on
and the years go by so fast
    silent fortress built to last
wonder how I ever made it

  6. I so love the ending of this post. Such a classic line. So now I think we need to come up with one of those things for the top of the car that normally says Taxi. You will of course say Mom Taxi. I bet we could make a fortune. The kids would hate it.

I think you are looking super for a 6:15 run by the way. At 6:15 I am still trying to convince myself I really need to get out of bed for the day.

  7. seriously... that's you at 6:15? i usually resemble a cross between grizzly adams and tom waits after a long bender

  8. I like Barman's idea for the cartop mom's taxi thing, but why stop there? I say you should install a meter too. Keep track of the mileage, and every time they want something, remind them, "You still owe me $4,837.50 for driving you around." ;-)

  9. I was just telling a friend how I think mornings are spawns of the devil! I'm up early after total vacation mode for the last few days just so some guy can pack up my whole baggage shipment to head to alaska!

  10. I don't know. Maybe I'm perverted (maybe???) but I find the photo of you from 5:30 rather sensual, in a still-drunk-from-the-night-before sort of way.

  11. I love the song!

I'll be singing it from now on whenever I need to take the kids somewhere.

Wondering.......ever had to pull the car over? what then? Do they call your bluff and you have to be, mean, like my kids would say?

    great post

    From the late Jerry Reed...

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'
a'we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I'm east bound just watch ol'Bandit run...

LOL! OH Lime. No one beats your humor. I'm thankful mine have a ride in the morning. Freak I'd Die! Driving kids is a major chunk of the day.

    Cheers Bella!

  16. Aww I think Mona is trying to tell us that before we know it, they will be in college....

I LOVE the second picture! It's so cute. The perfect, "dont let me turn this car around" look!

I agree with you.....a 4" zipper would be perfect! Maybe I oughta just start a line of jeans for real women that are not dorky.......

  17. So Susie, real women that are dorky can't buy your jeans, only the non dorky woman can? So that is the way you roll.

You are such a good mom!! My poor kids lived in the same neighbourhood as their school, soccer teams and friends...so they got to walk or bike most of the time. I do remember the Mom taxi well though. Band practice and music school wasn't in our neighbourhood and their have been enough trips to hold me over for many years to come. However one great thing about mom's taxi, is we get the best conversation in the car.

  20. Do the same driving here. My daughter has ballet, gymnastics, and something called "Cheer school" that to my country boy eyes looks like gymnastics. My son has activities with friends and he needs to be taken to them. This may make me sound like a bad daddy but times like these I look forward to them going off to college.

Ahh that smiling happy face plant on the table. At least one eye is open. I've usually driven to work by the time consciousness rears it's ugly mug

  24. When school starts, I completely avoid the area where parents drop off their kiddies. Moms and Dads who are barely awake can be so hostile.

  25. Wow, Lime, you iz one no-nonsense-lookin' chauffeur. . .

  26. Big dumb mean mornings are complete evil.

Mommies who wade through them are saints.

*clink clink* (and not coffee cups; our wine glasses; we can drink at 7 a.m.)
