Da Count-Very Appropriate this week.

I did mention yesterday that I thought maybe I was walking around under a black cloud or something with this run of bad luck our family has had recently. The post about the shirt bringing bad luck really was meant as a bit of a joke, but I'll admit I was feeling a bit beset until several commenters gently reminded me that maybe my perspective was a bit off. Some even suggested the shirt was acting in a somewhat protective way since things didn't turn out much worse.

So this week I'm counting the good things that have occurred in all the bad situations lately.

1. Diana's and Isaac's trips to the ER with severe asthma attacks. There was medicine to be had that provided relatively quick relief. I can remember having several attacks as a child when I should have been taken to the ER and wasn't and I didn't even have an inhaler. I'm so very thankful that my kids can get quick relief and that the folks Diana works with tried to take good care of her until I could get to her.

2. Calypso's trip to the ER. The doctor kind of looked at us like it was very silly that she was brought in at all and I still don;t know who called the ambulance when I was delayed in getting to her due to the parade clogging up traffic. That being said, I am extremely grateful that someone who saw my child in some form of distress moved to do something to alleviate that rather than turning a blind eye. I'm also grateful for the lady who waited with Calypso.

3. My fender bender. I saw the guy was going to go into me and was able to veer out of the way just enough that he only clipped my back end rather than plowing into my side. I'm very thankful that neither the other driver nor I were physically injured. For the sake of not having to suffer Mr. Lime's ire I am glad the police cited the other guy for leaving his lane, kinda proves I didn't cause the accident.

4. Many terrific bloggers and commenters. I'm thankful to folks who lend support and refocus my thoughts in a positive direction. You guys are the best.

Now, I have 4 different insurance claims I will have to be 'discussing' with various representatives, so if I begin to whine about that process please refer me to this post and tell me to stop bellyaching and be thankful.

There you go. It always seems that everything is going down the sh*tter when it's all grouped together. But I have found in the last year or so that there is always a bright side. Have a good weekend michelle.

You know, I never even thought of that. Sometimes it takes someone from outside of the box to see that the glass really is half full. I'm just happy that you're all still around!

That's a good way to look at a difficult time for your family. I hope all goes well with the kiddos and that you get a reprieve from all the drama.

well I think you are a VERY positive person 99% of the time and the rest of the time you are human just like us. We all have times when things seem to steamroll on us.
I didn't see you as making a connection between the shirt and recent events but what do I know, I'm just a silly puddy tat.
We all have so much to be grateful for, I'm glad you feel that way too.:)

Counting one's blessings always brightens things up. Remember: When life gives you lemons...pin your enemy down and squirt the juice in their eye! HA!

Oh, and I'll get some Police Line -Do Not Cross tape and send it your way with wrapping instructions. Expect to see it on a future HNT :)

Sometimes stepping back to ponder how much worse it could have been is all it takes. Bravo on taking that step with this count. We just need reminders once in a while... thats all. :) Cheers!

Glad to see your pair of dimes shift a bit. Hope you're doing well otherwise.

You look very sweet in your HNT pic!

You must have been looking for those silver linings with a microscope ... though the part about someone looking out for your child was a blessing.

Crossing my fingers for the "discussions" with the insurance guys... I know how painful that can be.

Sorry for the run of bad luck, and I'm glad you're able to see the good side.

Thanks for reminding me to add you to my blogroll -- I'm not sure how I missed you for so long. In fact, you may be in line for a promotion one of these days. ;)

oh honey. good luck with the insurance claims! keep pestering them until they get tired of hearing from you and give in,

asthma attacks suck! i hope the kids get better. i think that pollution is catching up to all of us and ruining our lungs. your kids are like the canarys in the coal mine in an environment which is becoming increasingly toxic to humans (IMO)

I used to have to take spoonsful of this yellow stuff called Tegral. It was so horrible that I would do anything to hide the fact that I was having an attack, just so I wasn't given something to help me. I would rather suffocate than swallow that crap.

Dude, don't you know that you were partially to blame for just BEING on the rode in a car?! Sheesh! Think like an insurance adjuster, Sistuh.

As far as the shirt goes, well, I used to be the family therapist at a day facility for kids. Whenever one of those kids comes to jail and tells his buddies, "Yeah, he used to be my family's counselor," someone invariably says, "You didn't do so good a job as a counselor." I just snap right back, "Oh yeah? He's not here for murder, now IS he?" It could always be worse.

I have a bad luck shirt too. It has even spread its bad luck to another shirt by the same maker. So I don't wear them. I just leave them in my closet and think how lucky I am to have luckier shirts to wear. :)

Not that I really believe in bad luck shirts. Because I don't. But if I *think* they're gonna be bad luck, then... well, you know.

Lime? I hope everything is okay at your end & the children are all well again!

Ah yes, it could always be worse, lets just not find out by how much.
It's good to have people around who care about your kids, in fact, one of the best things in life.

I hope you are having a wonderful uneventful weekend. ;)

Sounds like you're "counting your blessings" as the saying goes- that's a very good thing to do!
Hope the insurance folks are nice to you!!

Four insurance claims? Ouch. I have a tough enough time dealing with one insurance company, or claim, let alone four. That just scares the hell out of me.

I certainly don't think of you as a bellyacher. But, really, a blog is a terrific place to let loose with the good AND the bad, so don't edit or censor or spin. We can take it, baby.
