Sassy Mamas and Smiles

I think it was about a week ago that Maddy gave me the Sassy Mama Award so I am finally getting around to passing it on.

First off, I have to give this to Susie and Logo. They are two of the sassiest girls I know. Susie's fondness for orange knickers certainly has to qualify her. As far as Logo goes, I couldn't even begin to narrow it down to a single post that exemplifies her sassiness. You'll just have to go peruse her archives for yourselves.

Next, I will have to award Jocelyn and Theresa. Again, every post from these two ladies oozes sass. They are both brilliant writers and funny as all get out. Go read them.

Next, Moose gave Isaac this Make My Day Award for his Death by Locust video. Since he doesn't actually blog I will pass it on to some people in his stead. At the risk of sounding completely whiney, it was a rotten weekend. I screwed up my back on Saturday morning and I've been in wicked pain ever since. After a month of taking care of other sick and injured people you might think I'd get cheerful help from the folks who have recovered. You'd also be wrong...insult added to injury. But I want to pass this award on to G-man, Tommy, and David for either giving some specific words of encouragement or just making me giggle once or twice this weekend. Thank you for some smiles and kindness when I needed it.

Finally we come to the audience participation portion of our post. I was corresponding with David and we discussed famous places we had grown up near to but either have never seen or didn't see until we were well into adulthood. I grew up only about 2 hours away from New York City but never made it there until I was 31. I'd seen over 30 other states in the country, visited Canada and Bolivia, and had lived overseas but I still hadn't gotten to NYC.

So how about you? what famous local (to you) landmark do you have yet to see or didn't see for a ridiculously long period of time?

Sassy Mom award. Can you print that out and post it on your fridge so your family can see? Or maybe they already know!

Hope you are staying warm, Michelle.

What a nice Monday post.

I live a little over an hour's drive from a beautiful place called Muir Woods, that has what's left of the area's giant coastal redwoods. I've lived in the bay area for 27 years (good heavens) and have yet to see Muir Woods. Shame on me.

I grew up less than 5 hours from the Atlantic ocean, but didn't see it until I was nearly 20!

Hmmm. Famous landmarks near me -probably the closest one to me that I have never been to -The Horseshoe Curve in Altoona, which is only an hour's drive from here. Been to NYC once -1964 World's Fair; Pittsburgh -visited a couple hospitals there in the past five years but the landmarks there -Observatory, Zoo, etc -never seen them and that's only about 3 hours away. Philly -been in and out of the airport there once, never into Philly to see the sights and it is maybe 4-5 hours away.
Hope your back starts feeling better and you at least get a little sympathy on the home front.

Wow, me a sassy mom? Thanks, I'm honored. I have to tell my kids about this, but then again, I don't think they know the meaning of the word sassy. Let me see, how would I translate that to Spanish?

Landmarks? Well, I've lived in Spain for over 15 years and I still haven't made it to Barcelona. :)

Sea World! I've been out here close to 20 years and only been there twice...but for me...that was MORE than enough. $50.00 is just a bit too much for me. I'd rather spend it on something else. I am sure there are other things out here that I haven't seen. Just can't think of them...lol!!

Congrats to you on your awards! You ARE one sassy mama!

;o)

Hey Sassy Mama!
French Toast?
My Mum used to buy (the British version) of this readymade from the supermarkets in the 1980s. No eggs: it was just expensive dried bread!

Don't stop bein' sassy now, Mama...

I'm about 75 miles from Newport, RI, where they hold the America's Cup races, but I've never gone. Otherwise, I've been pretty good about visiting just about anything of interest near to Boston.

We live about 4 hours from the Mackinaw Bridge (the bridge that separates the two penninsulas of Michigan) and have never been to Mackinac Island. The island is famous for the Grand Hotel in which much of Somewhere In Time (Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour) was filmed. It boasts the worlds longest front porch and there are no motorized vehicles allowed. My kids have been with my parents but I've never been :(

I've lived in Upstate NY most of my life. I got to Muir Woods in the 80's but it was the 90's before I got to NYC and I've only been twice. I still haven't made it to Montreal, which is much closer.

I commented earlier and blogger must have ate my comment.

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your back, and I hope it gets better soon, and I hope your family gets a clue before that.

I live about 90 minutes from Disney World and didn't get there until I was in my mid twenties. I still haven't made it to Daytona's Bike Week, which is about two hours away. But I live in a tourist trap, and I'm sure there will be many places I never make it to.

My thing is country music and Nashville, the country music capital, is only about three hours away from me. I have drove by Nashville many times but have never actually stopped to check out Music Row. I am hoping to remedy that this year, maybe even over spring break because we are still undecided where we are going then.

Hope your back feels better, many prayers coming your way!

uhhmmm...I lived in Arizona for nearly 2 years and we drove every where but we never once went to the Grand Canyon. We even had an "all" national parks pass. Made it to glacier, yellowstone, zion, bryce, and moab but somehow missed that little canyon along the way!

I grew up in a town near the one where I live now. The town where I live now has a frickin' fish ladder. Since I was a little kid I've been hearing about this darn fish ladder, but never got around to seeing it. Finally, at age 35 or so, I saw the fish ladder. It's architecturally cool and apparently a big help to the fish and now I've seen it. Woo hoo!

*For those going why do fish need a ladder, an explanation: Salmon swim upstream to spawn. When they reach a portion of a river with falls, they have a very, very hard time making it up the falls. A fish ladder offers graduated levels of water enabling the salmon to make small jumps up each level to reach the upper level of the river and continue on to their preferred spawning area. Somehow the salmon figure this out and make their way up the ladder each and every year. It's kind of cool to watch the salmon jumping all those levels.

Sorry to hear you injured your back but in this case I guess it's good to know that people all round the world are, er, talking about your back behind you!!

I'm going to organise a work party for all able-bodied bloggers to hop on a plane with me to come over and do your chores for you and bring you an endless supply of Margaritas.

On a serious note, thank you so very much for the award. I'm glad I make you laugh and I'm honoured to lend a guiding hand whenever it's needed.

When I was growing up, it was called friendship ....

God bless
