A Good Day

So as to not have the last unhappy, ranting post on top until Monday I will give a brief report of today...

It was opening day for the local Little League. The weather was sunny and warm. The kids were excited. Our team didn't win but we played hard and the guys had a good time. You can tell the boys are more comfortable this year since it is their second year together. A spirit of camaraderie pervaded. We have terrific coaches who encourage the boys in a positive manner. One boy is out for the season because during a scrimmage he got hit in the eye and had facial bones broken. He had surgery this week to repair the damage and still made it to the game. He can't play but he was there supporting the team and his team was overjoyed to have him there.

It was a good day of simple pleasures.

I love it when kids shine, not by winning just by being good to each other.

Oh I so MISS those days~ but thanks for the sweet reminder. Maybe one day, and hopefully soon, I'll be sitting back at the ball park cheering on a grand baby :)

there's nothing like a good game of kid's softball to relax and appreciate the truly important things of life. Glad you had fun.

I coached Little League for a few years until it became to competitive and clicky. All of a sudden winning was everything and the best players got the majority of the playing time. Not just because the coaches wanted that way, but the majority of the parents did too.

Having spent 8 years playing little league and two years coaching it I was always amazed by the spirit and sportsmanship displayed by the players. It was the parents and coaches that needed to be restrained. There was Mr. Mason, the coach who was ejected from just about every game for poor sportsmanship - oh, he was also an English teacher at the high school - the perfect role model wouldn't you say???

Sounds like a great day all around!

It's so good when the kids have those positive coaches who don't treat the game as a life-or-death issue. Our own kids had those coaches too.

When you have time, wander over to my place. There's a hefty post to wade through, but at the end an award awaits you, my dear. And you don't even have to accept the tag to accept the award.

Fractures? Ouch. But it's great to hear that he was out there supporting the team. Raising him right, you are.
