Busy Weekend.

Arg...ok...so I just spent the morning going around thanking all the lovely folks who left me birthday greetings over the weekend. Then I downloaded pictures from the weekend so I could document how busy it was. Next I spent time resizing the pictures so I could upload them more easily in non-ginormous sizes. Now I can find the darn things on my computer. In the interest of just getting a post up here since it is already after 11 am and I have a few other things that need doing today I am not going to have the pictures I intended to have. Instead, here is a boring, mostly pictureless recap of my weekend.

Friday: Mom arrived in the morning to take me out for my birthday. She decided I needed some new clothes for my birthday. I know I am weird but clothes shopping ranks just above taking out the garbage in terms of giving me pleasure. I was in need of a pair of dress pants and a half decent coat. We found a coat, a blouse, and a pair of pants on sale 50% off. I was able to use Diana's employee discount card for another 30% off. I got all three things for about $80. I LOVE a bargain! (she imparted a spirit of thriftiness in me, if not a love of clothes!) Mom took me out for a very lovely lunch too and we had a nice time together. Oh she also brought me a very cute birthday cake. See? Cute, huh? She baked the thing in a mug. She found some recipe for a single chocolate cake in a mug...in the microwave, which gives it kind of a funky texture. But the idea is for a chocolate cake fix in a pinch. It was fun and we had a good giggle over it.

Friday night: Homecoming. Mom stuck around for the parade so we could see Diana's float. Each class had to do a float related to a Disney film from the 50s. Diana's class did Alice in Wonderland. They really did a terrific job. Sorry about the lack of pictures. Trust me. Their float was awesome.

Saturday: Calypso and I worked at the Harvest Festival at a living historical farm all day where I kneaded 35 pounds of flour into pretzel dough over the course of the day. I posted about doing the same thing last year. We had beautiful weather once again and the leaves are approaching peak color. Just gorgeous. But man, I was exhaustimacated when I got home.

Saturday night: I went to shower off the grime of the day and when I came out of the shower the girls told me I was not yet allowed to leave my room. Diana had baked me a cake which just came out of the oven before I got home. When she heard the car pull in she ran the hot cake and icing ingredients into her bedroom to finish assembly. Very cute. She was a little unhappy that the cake was kind of caved in and the icing was sliding off it but I was very appreciative of the sweet offering and tickled at the efforts made. I enjoyed the tasty chocolate fix at the end of the long day. She decided I should have my cake a day early because she thought she had to be out for most of Sunday afternoon.

Sunday (the actual birthday): The commitment the girls had to an afternoon rehearsal was cancelled and they were happy. Calypso mentioned to a college aged friend at church that it was my birthday, at which point the friend insisted we come up to their house. The friend builds sounds systems that can rattle the teeth out of your head and wanted to show the latest additions. It was apparent that no other plans existed so I accepted the invitation to take the brood and Mr. Lime to watch Iron Man with the tweaked system in use. I am glad to report all our teeth are still in our respective heads. Let me just say, I was given a seat on a futon that was about 6 feet from the screen and 3 feet from the speakers. The futon bounced so violently with the sound waves that if I were in a car that bounced that much I'd take it in for work on the suspension system. Holy Moses on a pogo stick! I fear for the foundations of the house. Fun movie though. I give it 2 thumbs up.

Sunday night: The girls had a long awaited social engagement so we dropped them off. On the way home my van's brakes started making very bad grinding noises. Upon arrival home and attempted engagement of the garage door opener the door itself broke. Mr. Lime engaged in a fair bit of sulkitude. (It may not be in the dictionary, but it should be). By now I was hungry and it is well established practice that I don't cook or clean up the kitchen on my birthday or Mother's Day. I grabbed my new coat and Mr. Lime's keys and took myself to dinner at my favorite restaurant since he preferred to remain wallowing in sulkitude (and had already spent most of the day doing so anyway). Isaac was happily munching leftover birthday cake and snacks while watching a football game...nutritional rules are suspended on birthdays. You only turn 40 once.

Thanks once again to all of you who took the time to offer special greetings.

I love the birthday cake in a mug idea. I love chocolate cake with a cup of coffee! Sounds like an overall interesting weekend. And I'm getting my van's brakes fixed this Friday!

OMG he sulked on your birthday?
Not cool.

But the lovely Mr Ratburn had the horrible habit of going out on my birthday with his sister because my bday is near Thanksgiving weekend, and she'd come up for that, then stay. I would end up babysitting my own child while they went out because the sis in law didnt offer.
Never occured to Ratburn that it was MY birthday, year after year, but when baby sister is around, baby sister gets whatever she wants....
So then one year, Karenji RIPPED the Rat a new one for that practice and it ended abruptly.
Thank you Karenji for setting him straight.

Spouses acting like asshats on your birthday is lame.

I hope it was wonderful. I thought aboutcha!
:P

Glad yer birthday was a happy one.

And just between you and me, I wouldn't trade what I've learned since I was 40 for all the youthful good looks I ever had (which might tell you something. . .)

Happy belated, Lime. Sounds like your dance card was quite full. As for hitting the big 40, my experience was that life seemed to take off about that time. It keeps on getting better.

P.

PS It was C's BD on Saturday.

To maybe help you find your pics?? Go to what ever photo program you were using and open a full sized pic of the day and try to save a resized one again... should lead you to the last folder you used... Hope that helped... ^5 to you for grabbing those keys! Sometimes Birthdays are best spent with the Star herself!
Hugs

Birthday cake idea cool. Going out to a special dinner while everyone else is missing also cool. But chocolate cake two days in a row... priceless.

Hey things do not always go as planed. Actually make that rarely go as planned. But it sounds like a wonderful time all the way around.

My Dad's birthday went pretty good too. Hey you October 12th birthday type people need to stick together.

Hey just think, no more 0h birthdays for three more Presidents.

Happy, Happy.

The Craver house watched Iron Man yesterday, too. Yea!!! That must have been so righteous on that system!

You said your mom took you shopping for "birthday clothes." But aren't birthday clothes... nevermind.

Sulkitude. I think I've been guilty of that a few times in my life.

When I stopped by yesterday, I don't think I actually wished you a happy birthday. How rude. I was so excited to make it to the 40th comment, I forgot to bestow the usual and customary HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIME greeting.

I'm glad all of you still have your teeth. I can sleep better tonight. :)

Happy belated birthday. I'm cutting Mr. Lime some slack, my garage door opener broken once and it put me in a serious bad mood. We use chain drive motors on our garage doors and once all the wreckage settled I had a huge amount of chain on the garage floor, a smoking motor, and a plastic gear with all the teeth broken into little flakes. Dragonwife came outside thirty minutes later asking me if I would have it fixed before dinner. But I will add it wasn't on her birthday.

Hi. Again i stop by to visit and again i find that we are very much alike. I have written before (but not too often so i don't give the stalker/lurker feel :) and i feel COMPELLED to note another similarity. Aside from the whole tie dye connection ( i consider myself the local guru), the way you handle your children, your sometimes sulkified hubby, your unceasing energy and your use of the english language, I now find our birthdays are 2 days apart. Not surprised as i feel connected just reading your blog for the past year or so. That is what good writers do, make you feel connected in some way. I turned 41 last Friday. Hubby baked a lovely box cake in sheet form and we burned wienies over the fire on a lovely georgia evening. He is a musician so i was treated to a night of petty, moody blues and some current alternative.
Kids (14 & 18) stayed for the obligatory hour and went their merry way.
Again, thank you for being so open and funny. I will continue to check in for the laughter and tears.
Note: i used to belong to a civil war reanactment group and performed living history (spinning, weaving, cooking)for fun.

HAPPY RETROACTIVE BIRTHDAY, Michelle. I'm glad your weekend was full. The itty bitty mug cake is so cute! And when it comes to your daughters' offering, I have always found there's an inverse ratio as to messiness/delectability. I will sink my tooth into a big old chocolate mess any day, birthday or not.

Sulkitude. I love the coinage. And I love the suspended nutritional rules. I am picturing you sitting in your favorite restaurant wearing your new outfit, ordering your favorite food, savoring each bite almost as much as you're savoring your coming into your own as a 40-year-old woman who's "been there." You're in your prime, Lime.

I've not had a lot of computer access in the ast several days so I'm trying now to cathc up. Belated Happy Birthday to you, Lime!

ARGH!!! I am in sulkitude because I remembered on Saturday, and somehow it has time warped to Tuesday!!!

Happy Birthday, my pole-dancing, zip-cording, tye-dyeing sistah! When you come (in March) we will have a blast!!!

Jocelyn said...

Och: I wish the sulkitude could have held off a few more hours...long enough so Mr. L could have found it in himself to take you out. Dang.

The rest is lovely...except the problem with a cake baked in a mug is that it's NO BIGGER THAN A MUG.

You are the second person today that I've read about the microwave cake in a mug. I must check into this.

I'm glad that despite a busy weekend, that you were able to get some enjoyment out of it despite being alone for dinner.
