FRIDAY 55
There's a knock on the door
before an invitation to help walk the dog.
My kids scramble out the door giggling happily.
I have a few blissful moments of quiet.
There's a crying girl.
A shoulder and an ear are offered.
Advice is shared.
Soon all is well.
A special auntie is worth her weight in gold.

I'm excited for my friend who just had her first child. She's been trying for a while and it's a joy she and her husband have been anticipating. When she lived close by she was not only my best friend but she was a friend to my kids. She'd wander by the house and sweep them up for a walk or adventure. Her visits always involved time spent fussing over my kids and sharing in whatever fun they were having. As my girls got older she became a confidante for them. When we were out running around it was common for us to pop in on her too. My kids still call her Auntie. It was hard to have her move away and lose those spontaneous visits. Even though we aren't as geographically close anymore I look forward to being able to be an auntie to her precious little one.

Great 55! Congrats to your friend! It is hard when you can't be there to share in the joys of your friends lives. My best friend got engaged last week and I was really sad that I couldn't be there to celebrate with her. I haven't even met him yet!
Wonderful! Simply WONDERFUL!! I'm so happy for your friend as well as for you~ a new special someone to love. {{Sigh}}
Sweet Pea is precious~A greater count, I just can't think of :)
Oh you will be such a great Auntie! And based on the pic of this new citizen of the world... you'll have many smiling rewards coming your way. Cheers!
OMG that is such a cute pic of the little pea! Youre going to have to make that baby a QUILT right away missy!
Happy New Year XOXOXO
That is really nice of your friend. People are good to you because YOU are so good yourself!
Hope you get to spend some quality time with your friend and her new baby in 2009.
Awwwa,
good friends who are good friends to your kids? Nothing like it.
Congrats to her and definitely a good count!
"A special auntie is worth her weight in gold."
I've told some stories about mine, of course. Amen.
It's cool to have those kind of friends. So how far away is she? We used to live two minutes away from some friends, and they're half-an-hour away now. It's a drag, 'cause my daughter likes to hang out with them, but each visit means two hours cut out of the day for driving.
myutopia, i hate the distance
kfarmer, some of the other photos are just so stunning (the maternal aunt is a very talented photographer)
lecram, aww thanks.
s, i made her tie dyed sheets and onesies!
mona, my friend is a gem
cocotte, i hope so too!
logo, yep, part of what makes her so very special
suldog, you are blessed to have a marvelous aunt too.
craver, she lives an hour and a half away. :( so not impossible for visits but far enough to be hard to jive with crazy schedules.
I love your poem. Congratulations Auntie, and congratulations to your friend!!
Close friends are a treasure. More valuable than gold. Congrats to her and the hubby for their first...
I'm afraid the only time I auntie is at the poker table. Not that I play poker all the time.
Nice words...as usual.
Nothing beats the knowledge that somebody's got your back whatever may come. Great tribute to a great friend and congratulations to her too.
Awww...Limey, that was wonderful.
Thank you so much for penning such an excellent offering..
Please have a very Happy New Year!

Congrats to your friend, and Happy 2009, Lime!
It was hard to have her move away and lose those spontaneous visits.
I found that out the hard way myself. Moving to my current location cut me off to important people.
being away from friends is sometimes harder than being away from family.
"adopted" aunties are always the best! I'm glad you have a friend like that in your life to share with your kids.
I got to spend some time with my niece over New Year's - she'll be 18 soon and has been a wonderful part of my life.
I've always believed it's really important for kids to have adults that they communicate with and are close to besides their parents. Helps "expand" their universe, if you know what I mean.
Also, parents don't always have all the right answers. I say that as a parent too. Junior gets to see that my way isn't the only way to do things, and that's a GOOD thing.
So I'm glad for your kids that they have a non-blood related adult that are close enough that they can have a confidante. Heck, I know Junior doesn't tell me everything and I accept that. I not only accept it, it's a good thing. I don't want to micromanage his life or else he'll be one dimensional.
Anyways, congrats to your friend. That's cool.
Happy 2009 Lime! A friend like that is worth more than gold. Congrats to her...and you for becoming an adopted auntie too. :)
Happy New Year lime! I think it is wonderful that you can be an Auntie...I have become an auntie of sorts to many kids...since I don't have any of my own...it is the next best thing! :)
