Friday 55 & Da Count

FRIDAY 55

Horses can't vomit.
Humans and dolphins are the only animals to have sex for pleasure.
An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.
Elephants are the only animals with 4 knees
and the only animals that can't jump.
Cat urine glows under black light.
Just a few of the trivial tidbits Isaac has shared recently.

DA COUNT

Isaac has recently discovered a love of trivia. In fact, he has been texting a number of people a daily fact. I have long been the only trivia nerd in the house. It serves no real useful purpose but it's fun and I am a little tickled to have someone else around who relishes useless facts. Look out G-man, there's a Mr. Knowitall in training.

Now it's your turn. Add a trivial fact in the comments (and it doesn't have to be animal related).

Wait a minute. Pigs, who have 30-minute orgasms, don't have sex for pleasure? What are they, crazy? I know if I was a pig...

(No wisecracks)

... I'd be out hunting for lady pigs every day, biology be damned.

so that's why dolphins always look so happy

But usless facts make great 55's don't they.
We got to read and learn.
We never discuss our sex habits.
We dragons have a 55 today.

Butterflies taste with their feet, according to a useless facts website I've just found. I've never asked one to see if its true...

Newborn kangaroos are one inch long (I just looked that up; I find it hard to believe though).

According to the Linguistics Society of America there are 6,809 languages in the world.

India has 18 offical languages, and over 200 "unofficial"! :P

Trivia Madness, look out for Isaac!!

The tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body.

I actually don't know if that is true, I just heard it somewhere. ;)

Suldog - I just recently heard that about pigs and 30-minute orgasms, and you make a good point - how can they NOT be doin' it for pleasure?

And Cocotte, baby kangaroos are 'born' at a much earlier developmental stage than other mammals, into their mother's 'pouch', which is sorta like the 'outer chamber' of her uterus. The joeys don't show their faces to the outside world for several weeks after birth. . .

Which reminds me of something I came across about human babies, and how we also are born at an earlier developmental stage than most mammals, because our heads are so large (and moms, you can be glad of that, right?). Most mammals are born being able to walk within hours of birth, and are developmentally fully grown within a couple years. Whereas humans can't walk until they're about a year old, and they aren't sexually mature until their teens. There are probably some implications from that as to the long period of time we spend in parental care, as compared with other mammals, and social development, etc, etc, but I'm less clear on those.

Don't know if that's 'trivia' per se, but I thought it was interesting. . .

You will find a lot of book covers printed with a combination glossy and matte cover. It is not a gloss finish that is added, but they print the whole cover glossy and add a dull matte finish on top of that. I know that's not the most exciting trivia, but I think most people would assume it worked the other way around.

sad.

I love me some useless facts. In fact, have you see the John T. Toilet books?? It's a book that's supposed to be in the bathroom for reading materials or other usages :ahem: and it's filled with useless facts. Quite fun if you ask me! :)

Yay for trivia!!!

lol... I too am a font of useless facts.

Though there is one that still has me stumped... the origins of "jonesing" in the popular lingo... as in "I'm jonsing for a drink"... Any help out there?

~The only time bats hang by their thumbs is to give birth and go to the bathroom... even "it" is done upside down!

~ Male cats have a barb on the tip of their penis, which is why every time they pull out the female screams and turns around to claw him.

~Elephants have no ability to thrust so they have motor control of their "four feet" worth of manhood!

~Snakes have a "hemi-penis" (two) in case they get caught in the act and "break" away!!! ouch!!!

~I used to give sex tours at the zoo.... :)Want to know more? lol

EmBee...that's only part of it... their off spring is actually a third of their total weight when born... so it's like us giving birth to a 33 lb. baby!!! And it's not like they get to rest. As soon as they do give birth they start getting chased because everyone else wants the placenta for all the nutrients it contains... so she catches the baby with her feet, attaches it to a teat and instantly goes on the move trying to protect her placenta!!! She's got my respect!!!

~Dragonfly~* said...

Airplanejane... it's actually 5 "pairs" of hearts... they have 10!!! Way cool when doing a dissection!!!

I'm not sure if it's a piece of trivia but I like collective nouns a wee bit more than trivial facts. I love how you have an exhilaration of larks but a murder of crows........

Mrs. Lime you have a wonderful way of bringing your message into the world.
Now, when it comes to trivia I just happen to enjoy throwing out a tid bit every now and then.

Did you know that a duck's "quack" will not echo or that there are thirteen representations of the number 13 on the old dollar bill. (The new bills have been changed, so I can't state anything about them)

If you like movies and ation ones at that James Bond's nemisis, Goldfinger's first name was Auric, which is means gold.

Oh, and Maddy you can also have a strumpet of harlots to go with a collection of "Pros"

Hello Lime,
Have noticed Your amazing profile here and there, and know I am here :-)

Really, do we have sex for pleasure?
Or is there a sense of pleasure in making babies? How do we actually know what the real trigger here is? Maybe, it is just like with everything else in nature ... want to make more of me ... a survival mechanism!

So, the existential question might be;
do we have sex because we must survive, and that is deeeeeeeply grounded in our molecules?
