She took night classes in computer technology 25 years ago.
She sat grandbabies on her lap letting them tap the keyboard.
She introduced me to chatrooms.
She got a digital camera and built her own website long before I ever blogged.
She joined Facebook and learned how to text to enter her grandchildren's world.
Mom, playing Wii with the kids after she bought and set up the system for them.

I've posted about my mom and what a good mom she is. Recently I was reminded of how tech savvy she is and how that fosters a closer relationship with her grandchildren than she might otherwise have. My dad recently acquired an iPhone, much to the envy of his daughter and grandchildren. He then declared he was thinking about getting an iPod. I was rather incredulous that he had no idea his phone was capable of that. We discussed other capabilities he acquired with his new gadget and I could see the smoke begin to pour from his ears as his own circuitry was overwhelmed by how much he DIDN'T know. Mind you, Dad is a very intelligent man who has embraced technology in the past, but this all seemed light years beyond him. He somewhat meekly asked for one of us to help him figure out how to use things. Meanwhile my mother has built websites from scratch (uh, yeah, she could DEFINITELY teach me a thing or two). I have to admit taking her knowledge for granted sometimes. Then I come across someone else in her generation or perhaps younger who is completely bewildered or even resistant (and I have to admit to having dwelt in that camp for a long time) and I am reminded how special and wonderful it is that she hasn't let technology contribute to a generation gap between her and my kids.

Great 55.
A great mom
This brave new world can be such fun even for old people.
That's great. I will admit, even working in a pretty 'hi-tech' environment, that I was slow getting on the bandwagon. I still write FORTRAN code for stuff that everybody tells me I should be doing in a spreadsheet. (*sigh*)Heck, my 87-year-old dad was quicker getting on-line than I was. . .
i hope you're gonna share this with her on sunday???
I think it is wonderful that your mom makes such an effort to be in touch with her grandkids... I see similar traits in my mom. Just yesterday she was sharing an e-mail with me that she got from my youngest!!!
DF
that's so cool, what a great gramma
Wow. I wish I knew how to do a tenth of what your mom does.
As for the iPhone, who knew it could be used as an iPod...
Yeah, I'm technochallenged.
What's even more cool is that your kids would accept their grandma's friend request on FB!
She's so cool!
An on the ball mom there.
Hey wait-a-minute, I want my money back. That was only 54 words! Well...since it's your mom we'll loan you an extra word...
I cant even get my mom to email me!
When I have modern tech qs I ask LR.
Have a great weekend.
It's wonderful that your mom is taking the time to understand the current tech stuff. It does put you on a different convo level with your kids and grands.
Happy Mother's Day Michelle.
Your mom sounds awesome. How fantastic that she's interested in things her grandkids are so she can remain connected to them. Enjoy your Mother's Day!
How very cool to have that bridged gap! :) Happy Friday and Happy Mommy's Day Sunday!
Ep Mom you have there. Yeah, I keep telling friends in my generation (who are deathly afraid of technology) to live in the times. Your great count shows that there may still be hope for them.
Cheers!
Um... I meant Hep... not EP.
Fantastic that your Mom and Dad embrace new technology. Love the 55. :)
your mom & dad remind me of me and hubs. i'm more technologically inclined than he is. lol so cool that your mom got & set up the wii for the kids. the wii is fun. my parents can barely work their cell phones! lol
This is lovely. Lucky kids!
I know older folk who are terrified of the newer technologies. It took my dad awhile to get into it, but he's addicted now.
And my kids think I'm cool because I play Final Fantasy, but I can't handle blue tooth.
You're mom rocks!!! As cool as my mom is, I can't drag her into the tech age. She refuses to have a cellphone or a computer!
::sigh::
Limey my dear...
Wonderful 55, and a wonderful tribute.
Thank you so much for this fine contribution.
have a Great Week-End...G
hahaha. very cool granma!
what a cool mom you have!
Lol! indeed Facebook is our children's world!
Very cool, Lime. I wish I could say my mom is there yet, but she still prefers the call to the email. She uses the net for research and hobbies but it is dad that has run with it. I went to school for network technology but HE talks over my head and has juuuuuuuust about stopped calling me for any kind of help, since i usually refer him back to the net. They invested in a wii when they heard all they great retirement homes had them.
I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!!
Wish I could talk my Mom into turning on the puter we set up for her! Have your mom call mine kay?? hehehe
Although! We did get her to play WII
Maybe next time my grown son asks me to play Wii, I'll play, instead of just watching. Food for thought.
This was a great reminder - you see, I'm visiting my Mom today :-)
Btw: Not because of the Mother's Day as it's on the second day of Feb. You may see the differences of the day all around the world here.
What a great point- I'm really glad my parents are tech-savvy, too. It makes it so much easier to keep in touch with them!
Happy Mama's Day :-)
Happy Mother's Day Limey bean!
We're still trying to convince The Missus to check the Facebook page we set up for her.
Hope you are having a great Mother's Day!
Both your parents rock.
How could they not? They have to be worthy of you.
Happy mother's day Lime!
