Mortifying a carpool of teenagers when you pick them up immediately after the Halloween party at work: Priceless

DA COUNT

I really did not much care about dressing up for the Halloween party. My coworkers have been buzzing for a couple of weeks about their costumes. They wanted to know what I was doing. I really didn't care. All I knew was I wasn't spending a cent on a costume. When I walked in they all nearly fell over laughing. That was a good start. One of the chiropractors laughed every time she looked at me because she said I reminded her so much of her parents. Scary thought, huh? Wednesdays are more than a wee tad crazy because I have to zoom out of the office the minute it closes in order to pick up the carpool kids. That means I had no time to change. The looks on the faces of the kids when they got into the van were fantastic. They ranged from amusement to horror to thinly veiled disgust to utter embarrassment. Calypso made sure I knew none of them wanted to get in the car with me. Ah well, one of the joys of having teens is being able to horrify them on occasion.

I loved it! Most definitely a priceless 55 for the day. I always enjoy subtle and harmless embarrassment of the kids. I think the last time it happened was during a family trip to Hawaii (complete with aloha shirt, lei and bermuda shorts) singing Karaoke!

Have a great Halloween.

You'll find 55 ~ Skipping Stones posted.

My son's friends say the same thing when my wife picks them up. Not me though, I'm the "cool" parent.

What's the point of teenagers if you can't humiliate them by your very existence once in a while...

Good for you; parents of teens are entitled to mortification privileges! I am proud to exercise those rights frequently. The sad thing is though, when they (and their friends) start getting used to it, and go on to one-up their twisted paternal units. Yes, on occasion I have been out-mortified and had to retreat. Sssickos! (I blame the parents.)

Aww gee, they missed one "n."

Ain't it wonderful? Like the first time the cute young cashier at the grocery store calls you 'Sir'. . .

And heck, embarrassing your teenagers because you're finally un-self-conscious enough not to care what anybody else thinks, is one of the very best perks of mature adulthood (uh, so-called)

;)

I don't think I embarrass my kids any more-they expect me to be a bit dememnted.

Shame really. One day I should post about going to LM's boarding school for parents day in a rather transparent top.

Strange for a theatre person... but I've been off "dressing up" for Halloween altogether for the past few years.

Though I have to say your "costume" sounds like a hoot and a half.

Have a good and safe one.

It's moments like this, I really do wish I had kids for that reason. To embarrass the hell out of them. I mean, come on....how can I ever embarrass my pets? sheeesh!

That is sooooooo freakin funny. LOVED the picture!

Oh horrifying teens is our right as mothers. Its kind of like evening things out from that time they pooped out their diaper and into our open toed shoe,or when they say "That dress doesn't make you look so fat Mommy."

If I had to dress up for Halloween for work, I'd have to call in sick that day. I have zero creativity in costume department, which explains why my boys have been wearing the same ones they have for the past three years!

The reactions are what makes the whole thing priceless for sure! Glad you could expand their horizons for the week :)

I wish you'd left the car idling, cranked some Santana, and jumped out to do a little of your patented butt wiggle around the parking lot...just to show them what REAL embarrassment feels like.

Hahaha!!! That is AWESOME! I look forward to embarrassing my kids. As a teen I wasn't easily embarrassed (how disappointing for my folks!) so I hope my kids don't take after me in that area and ruin all my fun. ;)

It's part of the package to embarrass our kids. Better still if we embarrass their friends too. Good job!

lol, sorry I'm so late getting here, but that was a great 55. I wish you could've captured the look on their faces in a picture. :D
