Friday 55 & Da Count-It's a Good Thing

FRIDAY 55

Hey, Mom?  Don't be angry, ok?
Depends upon what you did wrong, son,
I forgot tomorrow is Oktoberfest for German class.
We need to cook something.
WHO needs to cook something?
Uh, we need to.
WHO?
WE need to.
And who is involved in this "we?"
Uh, me...
and hopefully you...
so it tastes good.

DA COUNT

This week I'm counting having a German heritage so all I have to do is pull out Grammy's recipe. (If you're in need of a deliciously induced myocardial infarction check the link.) Also, I will be counting that Mr. Lime is willing to go to the store for ingredients.  But since I only found out an hour or so ago I hope the other Friday 55 players will understand if I'm a bit late getting around to say hello.  I have some German potato salad to make WITH a certain teen-aged sous-chef.

It IS a good thing he's cute and you like him.
I know God knew what he was doing. The cuter the kid, the more mischievous they are. ;)

Mmmm, makes me hungry. I am not a fan of mayonnaise based potato salad either. It has to have a vinegar kick to it. I didn't know that German potato salad has to have beacon in it until an American friend told me :). My family's version doesn't, but considering that we love to eat it with fried fish that's probably a good thing.

Ha! My husband does that to me all the time. "I forgot to tell you that we need to make a treat to bring to Joeys' Boy Scout meeting tomorrow."

"Who needs to make it? We?"

"Umm... You?"

Yeah. That's what I thought. ;)

See now, my very German 'first mother' (the one who adopted me, and who first laid eyes on the USA after she married my dad in 1947) made a cold potato salad with oil, and diced onions and pickles, that has always been one of my favorites. I've never warmed up (HAH!) to the bacon-y warm potato salads. . .

JP's a bit like that, and he's 74 for heavens sake! Should have listened to his mother, 'cept that she was French and didn't speak English and I just about managed 'Merci'.

Veri word is Chrei...anagram of cheri. spooky coincidence?

Have convenient recipes (especially yummy ones) at hand is always a great count. I count mine all the time. This one was Mum's favorite.

Hi Michelle
I like how you tagged that 'good thing he is cute'...

This is why children are born adorable, so parents are eased into the teenage years.

I just picked up an email you sent to my mmmaysmail gmail address. It is kind of hard for me to respond to email on my cell phone so I either sent u a response X4 or not at all! I kept hitting send and nothing seemed to happen.

Anyway, thank you (-:

Mary

Oh I love German potato salad. I hate mayonnaise, so this works out just divine. I can see why your son wants you to cook something, it seems they all are pretty forgetful at this age, at least mine always was.

nice 55er,
joanny

Potato salad? I'd think with your chocolate obsession, you might have chosen something more along the lines of a Black Forest cake. Then, while you're at it, you could double the recipe and...

Well, you see where I'm going with this. I'd say maybe next time, but I'd imagine there will not be a "next time."

And hopefully you, so it tastes good..."

Laughed out loud there.
