Impressions

I'm back from Seattle.  It was great.  I loved every minute.  Well ok, there were a few minutes in downtown Everett, WA that didn't qualify as "loved" but they were tolerable and provided humor in now being able to have a chuckle at the lack of interesting things there as compared to the rest of the greater Seattle area.

The trip back was a colossal pain in the rump with canceled flight, overnight stay in our nation's capitol, misdirected bags, and discovering soaked contents (including damaged and destroyed books) upon retrieval of said bags. Oh, and that bit about having to bring my damaged things back to the airport within 24 hours in order to file a claim.  Greeeeat idea.  Unfortunately, I have a job my boss expects me to show up for.  Thank you, United Air for making Sunday such a completely restful delight so I could use it to chill out and re-adjust to the time change before plunging into an 11 hour workday on Monday.  No really, thanks....

Ok, enough of that.  Seattle.  LOVED it!  Logo and Susie.  LOVED meeting them and getting to explore the city with them!  Had a complete blast with them.  It was just a completely wonderful time finally getting to meet them after knowing them online for about a decade.  My brief impressions of each...

Seattle:  Very laid back vibe.  Independent bookstores on every other corner.  Very bicycle friendly.  Easy to find organic and sustainably farmed food.  Clean.  Inexpensive as cities go. Good public transportation.  In fact, the buses are free in parts of the city. GORGEOUS geography.  I have informed Mr. Lime the next time he threatens to move us to western Nebraska I will counter with "The Seattle Threat."

Susie: Even bubblier than you might expect from her online presence, in a good way.  Heart of gold. Fearlessly friendly and outgoing.  Love that she strikes up the warmest conversations with complete strangers.  Smart, sweet, and silly and I love her to bits.

Logo: Every bit as sassy as you'd expect from her online presence, in a good way.  Missed her calling as a tour guide.  Should be hired and well-paid as a city ambassador.  Tireless. Love that she knows her city and me well enough to know what was going to appeal to me most.  Smart, sweet, and sassy and I love her to bits.

Thanks to both Susie and Logo for showing me such a great time.

I took an absurd number of pictures so I shall have to begin sorting through to get some posts together.

For now I am going to bed.  I'm still on West Coast time and now have a hideous cold so morning is going to feel obscenely early.

I'm so glad you had such a wonderful time. It's sweet when your blog-friends turn out to be even cooler in person than you expected them to be.

Yeah, I'm done with flying. At 6'-5" its a given when I fly that I will jammed into a space not meant for anyone taller than 6 foot.

I'm still missing a bag from one trip several years ago and yes, I filed a claim that was promptly lost like my luggage.

Seattle is a wonderful place with so many great things to do and see. I lived there briefly in the early 70s and have visited several times. It has not changed that much, which is a great thing. I hope you got to enjoy some of the music venues up there.
Boo on the book and other damage!

That time zone thing is a killer and Thing Two has the gunk too,
in fact, he claims it is "some sort of horrible east coast crud."
:p

Nebraska?? I'm not sure it really exists.

4M was in Seattle just a couple months ago, and his appraisal corresponds pretty closely with yours.

And I hate the west-to-east jet lag. . .
