Slice of Lime-Does Your Bubblegum Lose Its Flavor on the Gum Wall Overnight?

Seattle has some really funky sights.  One of the weirdest I saw was the Gum Wall in Post Alley Near Pike Place Market.  Yep, there's an entire wall covered in wads of chewed gum.  There are even some artistic designs executed in gum like this depiction of the Space Needle and a ferry.

Of course, the whole idea is just crazy enough to appeal to me so I had to add my own chewed up wad of gum.  Chomp chomp snap snap.

And since I am often accused of taking things one step further than most I had to model the wad of gum before affixing it to the wall.

Find a good spot.

Make sure you know which one is mine.

Then I went to wash my hands.  Yeah, I'm a wild woman.

Wow. How excessively bizarre.

Here in Montreal they'd never let that happen, they just would be unable to see the beauty in it.

I would have washed my hands too :)

Sweet!

(Get it? 'Sweet' - 'cuz gum is, like, all sugary an' stuff. . .)

I had a teacher in jrhi who had what I consider to be the ultimate method of preventing gum-chewing in his class (and *sigh*; remember when gum-chewing in class was a big deal?). Every time he caught someone chewing gum, he'd collect the gum, and add it to the wad of gum he'd collected during the school year, and then the gum-chewing miscreant had to chew the whole wad. Yeah, I know. . . he'd be fired and sued and tarred-and-feathered and run out of town on a rail these days. But after the first month or so, gum-chewing went way down. . .

Come to think of it, maybe he moved to Seattle. . .

I'm sure there has been much debate along the lines of "Oh! How can we allow such an unsanitary thing to exist! Think of the children!", etc., but screw those people. It is marvelous!

(trembling) The gum on the nose is almost clown-like. Don't ever do that again.

This is going to set me back a few hours of therapy.

Way to leave your mark!!!

That is just pretty dang horrifying. I bet the folks in the area who sell gum do a huge business.

Sorta tie-dye-ish, isn't it?

I think that is wonderful in a very creepy way... being the germaphobe that I am. Yet very cool none the less.

Thank God my daughter didn't see it, she would start pulling pieces off and chew them.

Actually there is a gum ball machine next to the wall, and the gum costs 25 cents, so bring your own gum.

My father in law said, when visiting the wall,
"ya gotta be a madman ta stand here, a madman!"

A madman, I tell ya!

I like the tag of "it's fun if you don't think about it too hard" a great deal. Cuz, um, YEA.

That is fun. They need to rename Post Alley to Gumball Alley.
