Friday 55 & Da Count-Hilary's Tree

FRIDAY 55

Disquieted,
I restlessly wander the house
seeking calm.
Nothing engages me.
Nothing soothes.
At every turn I find
irritating,
invasive
distraction.

A whisper breaks through
to my spirit
suggesting,
inviting.
I open my door.

A shadow falls on my lips
shushing me.
The tree beckons me
with twiggy fingers
to find serenity
among her kin.

DA COUNT

The above picture was taken by Hilary of The Smitten Image.  She shared it in a wonderful post all about trees.  I was captivated and asked her if I may use it.  She graciously agreed.  Since childhood I have found peace among the trees.  In the past couple of weeks I've been reminded and drawn back to the trees for a few different reasons.  There's a rooted and interconnected quality to a forest that speaks to me.  There is strength and endurance in the longevity of a tree.  They hold secrets and whisper wisdom.  Even in the leafless days of winter they have a power.  Some may love the prairies.  I love my forests and the trees in them.

'Peace among the trees' . . . See, my first, impressionistic thought when I saw the photo was, "Oh, the shadow looks like a 'peace sign'. . ."

Thanks for this, Lime. It takes me back to my own younger days Up North, wandering in the woods. . .

I've always enjoyed a walk in the woods. Also, I find that climbing a tree and sitting in it is very relaxing. I haven't done it for a few years, but I think I should.

I like trees too. For a lot of reasons.

Hilary has a great eye, and an amazing talent for snapping good pics, doesn't she?

I liked your poem, Lime. Why do you suppose we find serenity among the trees? Maybe it's because they're simple enough to approach. Maybe it's because they're complex enough to be interesting. :-)

I very much relate. I don't live in a naturally tree-friendly place, but I've planted and watered and tried to get as many to grow as I can---they are a part of Nature I don't ever want to lose touch with. Wonderful 55, and photo.

I love trees too. I have often wondered what is wrong with folks to get rid of any tree on their property just to avoid raking leaves.
Especially those who move to my state... well known for its trees... just to cut them down.

Great pic!

Michelle this is beautiful and so well describes the peace so many feel from nature. Trees do indeed impart wisdom. I'm learning that more and more. Thank you for your beautiful words.

Wow I actually thought your piece was meant to be about some kind of nature-has-its-revenge killer-tree. And I actually really liked the idea! Now I just feel silly.

I love trees too. The house I had in Florida was in an older neighborhood with a lot of mature trees. In fact, one of the reasons I bought it was because there were two trees in the backyard just the right distance to stretch a hammock between. [One of them I could climb too, but to be honest I didn't do that very often. Still, it was nice to know that I could.]
