A Walk Around Town

Calypso had a friend visiting over the weekend and wanted to show her the old neighborhood where we used to live.  Boom-boom came along for the walk too.

Masonry detail on the old bank building (I love that my new lens lets me zoom in on such a high spot).

Iron work gate at one of the mansions in town.

A welcoming committee on a front porch.

While Calypso was showing her friend the schoolyard this little girl called down from her house across the street.  We had a lovely little conversation about the school and the fun things they do there.

Colorful door on an old apartment building being renovated.

We passed a few gardens along the way.

Red Maple

This snapdragon seemed to be thriving in a rather inhospitable spot.

These dainty roses were peeking through a privacy fence.

Lots of detail on this porch column.

It sure looks like a pretty neighbourhood. I absolutely love the little girl looking out of the red shuttered window. Beautiful.

Oh especially cute now that I've clicked on it to enlarge it. Her little nose is shmooshed up against the screen. Too cute.

the details on some of those homes is a lost art in homebuilding these days...

A photographer's paradise with all of that beautiful architecture and cool porches and doors! Great shots!

You live in a gorgeous place. We do not have many older buildings where I live. Some. There seems to have been the attitude that old=fire danger and people tore them down. Its a real shame. These pics are all so lovely and charming.

See, you live in a part of the country where lovely old buildings like that abound. At least, more than here, where our history is at least 100 years shorter. . .

This post has me seeing red - red shutters & shingles, red door, even red 'helicopters' on the red maple tree. . .

isnt it amazing how a zoom opens things up? my 28-300 is very heavy but worth the neck ache (i've taken to wearing a scarf under the strap so the strap doesnt get all sweaty and my neck doesnt ache quite as much .. but aside from giving me something to whine about, I love the photos a zoom gets you ...

Even though I'm not quite sure what it is, I like the thing sitting in the chair.

I like the thing sitting in the chair, too! It's like an M&M guy, with legs. Very welcoming!

Good eye! The iron gate is so simple, but the way you composed the shot is appealing. I like the work atop those porch columns, too!

Don't you love how a good camera helps you see things differently? Nice captures here.
