Perspective

And so that last post I put up dims in comparison to the horror that has occurred in Colorado.  I cannot bear to listen to the talking heads pick this apart or to the various political factions now arguing about gun control versus the right to bear arms.  Neither the media not the political machine care that so many innocent people died.  It's all just so much shouting into the wind as they feed like vultures on the fallen.

May the families and friends of those who have been lost or injured find the comfort and healing they so desperately need in the days to come.

Amen, Michelle; I couldn't have said it better. . .

I think that, on many levels, our culture is sick; very, very sick. . .

I try to put myself in the place of the families who lost loved ones, just because they went to a movie. . . so sad. . . so unutterably sad. . .

Pretty much covers my feelings on the matter... vultures, I mean.

Yeah, even the button I posted over at my place didn't help

I'm beginning to wonder if maybe it isn't the media and politicians who are the worst in our midst

They're the ones who do the utmost to benefit from the suffering of others

How are the folks in Aurora gonna start to heal when they're under a microscope?

You've hit it square on the head. 95% of what is being said is posturing, the other 5% actual reportage. Sad doesn't begin to describe it, of course, but this sort of thing makes it so much more so.

couldnt agree more .. each one of those special news programs merely repeated everything known over and over and what good is that? I say bravo to the woman who said stop saying the shooters name and focus on the names of those he shot ..

Don Henley's song "Dirty Laundry" comes to mind.

I do not think our culture is sicker than any other or that we have more people with mental illness than at other times. It is just to easy to get weapons that should only be used in war. It is too easy to pretend we don't know the loners and strange folks and we do not have a means of helping them.

My sentiments exactly. Well said! I look forward to the day when people start demanding that something be done to prevent these senseless tragedies.

I've been avoiding reading about it because I just feel so sick and sad for the families of the victims and the other people in the theater. It's horrifying.

It is a horrific and tragic event. I wish they would not have shown his face or had given out his name. All we need to know are the most basic facts.

This is NOT entertainment.

Yep. It really does put things in perspective, doesn't it?
Also, I am REALLY sick of seeing this guys face every where. I think media should be BANNED from putting his face any where. This devil should not get any kind of attention from this. His name should be released and then no other information about him should be given. I think the victims life stories and the survivors stories are all anyone should be talking about.

Another reason I why I now have the habit of turning off the news after 10 minutes. After that it becomes the worst type of speculation and mud throwing.
