Shopping List

I needed to go grocery shopping upon my return from "vacation."  I started a shopping list but then got distracted by some other pressing need or else by email or perhaps it was just my lack of motivation.  Truth be told, I really didn't want to be bothered.  I left the list sitting on the dining room table.

The next day, Isaac and Calypso had a friend over.  This friend of theirs is a great kid.  I adore him.  He makes me laugh every single time he comes over, many times without even trying.  He is frequently amazed by the weird health food and lack of junk food I have in my house.  To his credit he always wants to try my weird health food if it is something he hasn't had before.  He walks in the front door, makes a bee-line to my kitchen and asks what I have to eat today.  If I am not in the kitchen he opens the fridge and starts helping himself as he calls out to ask whether or not he can eat a given item.  He is always appreciative.

As he was getting ready to leave he thanked me for the meal I gave him that evening.  He also told me he found my shopping list and decided to add a few things to it to help me out.  Here's a sample of the list.  His items are italicized.

Milk
Chili Powder
Bicycle Headlight
Pineapple
Cotton balls
Ham
Cheez-its
Eggs
Asparagus
Borax
Pizza Rolls
Basil
Iron Man Suit
Greek yogurt
Kale
Fishing Poles
Mint Chip Ice Cream

I cracked up.  I think this week when he comes over I may need to have some non-health food Cheez-its, Pizza Rolls and mint chip Ice cream on hand for him just because he makes me laugh.  Sadly, Iron Man suits were on back order with no estimated date of availability.

Are you trying to tell me that mint chip ice cream isn't health food?

I think pizza rolls extend your life. I say this because when I'm really hungry it seems like they take FOREVER to cook.

You eat cotton balls and borax?

And I'm sorry, but given recent context, when I saw 'pineapple', I immediately thougth 'Spongebob'. . .

What a shame about the Iron Man suit! Can you imagine the coup de gras that you would score, serving this young man Cheez-its, Pizza Rolls, and mint chip ice cream while dressed as Iron Man?! Perhaps you could break out your Catwoman suit instead?! (You KNOW you have one!) ;-)

Pizza rolls and cold suds. That would be a perfect meal for me, but Mrs. Craver would never allow it. I'm not complaining though, because the real food she makes is delicious. It's just that I don't know how the heck to make that stuff. Thankfully, my kids have shown an interest in cooking, and I know I'll never starve. :-)

This is great stuff... I'm a big BIG fan of random. Of course, when he's a little older, he'll learn that you just have to do that stuff on the sly and leave it. Wait for it.... wait for it...

What a fun kid. My son has hijacked my shopping list in a similar way but never his friends.

Ha! My son often adds items to the running list I keep on the fridge. Often things like "Methadone" and "Crack."
