Merry Christmas

My favorite sacred song of the season. It's not a rollicking, joyous carol. It's contemplative, subdued, meditative. It speaks to anticipation delayed. This is not something our modern selves handle well. In this culture of instant gratification we want what we want now. We do not want to wait. We are spoiled children. But sometimes promises are a long time in coming and all the sweeter when they arrive because of the wait. Our hearts are prepared to receive a gift with full rejoicing when we've had to wait and ponder the meaning. My favorite secular song of the season. And this is my favorite way to hear it, played on steel pans. I like the sound of steel pans for this piece and I like the joy a bit of calyspo brings to it. I prefer a full orchestra but none of the videos with orchestras had particularly good sound quality so it really detracted. This solo artist does a terrific job though for only having one pan and two hands. Finally, my favorite silly song of the season, though it could also be considered a bit serious if one ponders the lyrics. I wish each of you who observes the day a Merry Christmas. To all I wish peace, good health, and that you be surrounded with love and aware of whatever rich blessings you enjoy.

I always think of the first one as an Advent song. The second is drop-dead gorgeous and I've liked the Elf's Lament for a while.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Just thought I should add that this is an utterly lovely version of 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel' you've posted here.

And I don't know what it's like where you are, but I've had about all of 'Run, Run, Rudolph' that I can stand. . .

The first was beautiful, the second unique, and the third one was new to me.
