FRIDAY 55An aneurysm,
heart damage,
pneumonia from aspirating vomit,
kidney shutdown,
gangrene in the feet,
three weeks in a coma,
a month in ICU,
bilateral amputation,
3 weeks in another hospital room,
2 weeks in a rehab center,
countless desperate prayers.
She wants legs and to go home.
Yesterday she was wheeled through her front door.
DA COUNTYou may or may not recall me mentioning at the beginning of the year about a friend of mine who suffered a massive brain aneurysm on New Year's Day. For a long time she was not expected to live. It came to a point where the doctors were pretty sure she'd have significant brain damage even if she did. Any one of the things she went through could have killed her and the combination should have from the standpoint of medical expectation. She lived and emerged from the coma with her mind and personality intact even if her body no longer is. Yesterday she came home to her own house, which friends built a ramp into. She is a miracle, plain and simple...and I am given a bit of perspective.
