Good Friday 55

In 55 words or less we write a story with at least one character, a plot, and an ending. So here goes...

The Thief
Merciless sun blisters my skin as the crowd's unrelenting curses assault my ears. The weight of my own guilt, the pain of dislocated joints and bound limbs bear down so heavily I can barely breathe. I dangle between present agony and hopeless eternity until He tells me,
"Today you will be in Paradise with Me."

Add one of your own in the comments or tell me more about my thief, what he's guilty of, how he got to this point, or give me a completely different story. Or if you observe either Easter or Passover share a special family tradition with me in the comments.

We'll be headed to my aunt's where 40 or so raucous family members will cause general mayhem and laugh the day away. Oldsters will play cards and reminisce while youngsters run around finding Easter eggs and chasing the dog. The rest of us will float between the groups, set out the food, snap towels at each other during the dishwashing.

Happy Easter and Happy Passover to the observant! Happy Spring to the rest!

After hearing what the stranger told him, the thief said to himself "Nice day for an execution."

GOT IT!

For nearly two weeks, she was locked away in that dark, damp dungeon. Small organisms slowly eating her alive, defecating all over, changing, metamorphasising. She would never be the same, but that was OK. It was his plan and he was the master. Another 24 hours and she, Carribean Lime, would be bottled and born.

Tommy, you are toooo much!!! I love it!

"Archaeology"

There it was. The long sought after spoon of the Amazon right at his hands. Keg being the athlete he was reached out, grabbed and began to run. He knew the Amazonian women wouldn't be far behind. Up the hill he ran and into the chopper. The take off was smooth, the bounty his.

The crowd taunted him and urged the guards to hasten his death. They didn't know that the man they condemned would one day return. When it was finished, and the earth was shaking beneath their feet, they realized too late what they had done.

WOO HOO - less than 55 this time!!

That was well written Michelle!
Happy Easter and enjoy your family. :)

well other than the chants from the crowd I saw the thief as an illness of some sort which robs one of happiness, joy and the ability to use the body, finally ending the terrible pain by passing on to a better place.:)

Wow, incredibly detailed. Well written.

Hope your migraine has disappeared. It's no fun to be sick on Easter. Be sure to eat the ears first on a chocolate bunny...

so I think I finally figured out this blogroll html stuff and added you to mine (well, at the moment I'm "in the process of" but..)
yay me for figuring it out haha! just thought I'd let you know..

Wow!!!
Let's see... the theif must have done something horrible and public for the crowd to have such a reaction... but perhaps the crowd mis-understood the situation and the theif was actually a hero...
Perhaps he stole a car to chase a man who hurt his daughter (wife/family member)... he was publicly arrested for theft of the car and pummeling the man...
I'm a sucker for the twist in a plot!

For my entire life we have spent Easter with my mom's sister and her family. This is sadly the first Easter that I will not be spending it with them. On a happy note, it was on good friday that I fell in love with my husband.

He drove in darkness; fear gripping his heart as he steered the car through the tunnel. The darkness swallowed him as he fell into slumber.

When he awoke, he was safe in his birthday suit beside the toilet bowl. Last night had been a night filled with Jack Daniels. Thank God for Advil.

wow
that's amazing

we're starting new traditions - even though the kids are older - they have almost always gone with grandparents for springbreak and i have been alone on easter - this year, we're all three of us alone together in texas, and we had a fabulous day.

My brain is too fried to come up with a story but I definitely enjoyed yours. i always wondered what could be wandering through the heads of the others on that day. Thanks for the perspective!

Lime - I continued from your start! hard to keep under 55....hmmm, I have the same problem when driving...

A bitter laugh escaped my parched throat. “Ha! And how, pray tell, will we get to Paradise?
“Fool!” spat the other. “Do you not know who this is?” He turned to the Man in the center, “Abba, please, tell me if you will: how can we find ourselves in Paradise?”
“On the wings of Love.”
