YUM!

I had to run to the grocery store this weekend. I was all out of cantaloupe and berries and peaches. I love summer fruits and veggies. I could just live on them. It's always a little sad when the seaon for all those succulent things passes. There are a few things that temper the sadness. Not the least of which is the mere beauty of autumn and the mild temperatures.

When I was at the store I walked with determination toward the check-out and then there it was. In the corner of my eye a blazing orange box caught me and drew me in. (Warning to
Semi Gloss Lacquer, nostalgic Pennsylvania moment to follow) the Sweetzels Spiced Wafers are in stores. It's another autumn happiness that eases the loss of all the delicious summer produce.

They are only sold just as schools are going back in session until around Thanksgiving. Their appearance in grocery stores heralds the soon to arrive changing leaves and crisp mornings of fall. For anyone from Southeast Pennsylvania it's the autumn equivalent of seeing the first robin of spring. Well, ok, maybe not anyone, but for me at least. But the box does say "...a favorite Philadelphia tradition to the welcoming of fall.'

Now anyone who knows me knows how I adore chocolate but these spiced cookies are just so yummy and special they almost rival my other addiction (almost). Give me a pile of these and a glass of ice cold milk, which I almost NEVER drink, and I will happily dunk Sweetzels until the pile is gone.

So tell me, what seasonal (any season) delectables are unique to your area that you simply adore?

Egg nog and apple cider are not Northwest specific, but maaaaan, I really like em.
One of the other bonuses of living around here at Valentine's Day are the large buckets of miswrapped Almond Roca candies for sale, cheap cheap cheap, and ooooh so good.

Well, as you know I live in wine country, but I am not into wine....

But then theres the apples and berries...your post reminded me of yesterday, when Ratburn and I went berry and apple picking out back.

The blackberries are really late this year...but slowly my freezer is filling up.

Right now Ratburn is eating apple crumble top pie that we made last night from the apples in the orchard. He says to tell you to get over here and you can have some!

Can you just send me ONE of those cookies in the mail?

BTW when in South India, I simply MUST have Mysore Pak, which is sorta like blonde fudge.....you can only get it there....

Right about now till mid October is apple season here. I love those big, crisp, sweet-tart, juicy Macintosh apples. Early Macs are my absolute favorite - mostly green and oh-so-good.

Also, summer means ice cream and that's good too!

Hmmmm? Guess those cookies never make it as far as Delaware... I've never seen 'em before???

As for me... Anytime of year is a good time for a freshly made chocolate chip cookie, I'm famous for my Nestle' Tollhouse (I pronounce it like Pheobe on 'Friends')

Seasonal though, hmmmm? Butternut Squash at Thanksgiving with a little brown sugar and cinnamon... Only my Mother-in-law and I like it so she makes it just for the two of us!

Around here, special cookie season begins not until winter. I especially like small filled Lebkuchen glazed with dark chocolate. Yummy!

OH NO!! you said the FALL word.I do love the fall season tho, beautiful fall colors, crisp Saturday afternoons with college football.

We have begun enjoying fresh bi-colored sweet corn and tomatoes and eagerly await zucchini and squash to start arriving at the roadside stands.
