R.I.P.

sirwin

Say what you want about the guy being more than a bit crazy. He, along with The Kratt Brothers, inspired a great love of the animal world in Isaac. We are sorry to hear of his premature death.

i just read this on the ap news and came straight here because i knew you'd have this here. this is such a shock, and i feel like we've suffered a great loss. even if he was a little on the wacko side.

Oh no, dont tell me?
The croc bit his head off?

I have to run and find out...

RIP Croc guy!

I feel bad for his family, his wife seems sane enough.
My kids love the Kratts too.
Bummer

moose, yep the best kind of crazy

aunt bea, do i know you? it is indeed a shock.

bare, stingray spine to the chest, presumably his heart.

logo, i feel bad for them too. such young children.

Ok heres the thing, before the fatal sting.....I think I heard the little stingray screaming...

MOMMM HES TOUCHING MEEEEE!

and the mom said,

WELL TOUCH HIM BACK DEAR!

All in fun, all in fun, RIP Steve.

Oh, that is horrible news. At least he went out doing what he loved...

yeeeeks...

I mean, what do you say to that?
...not the sort of fellow who you'd expect to go out quietly in an old folks home somewhere, but still...

(-ya see, that's what I've been TELLING ya Michele, stingrays are just too flakey. I mean, you're sitting there over a cup of coffee with one, just talking, one comment about the Republican Party and 'whammo,' (out of nowhere!)
I mean, Manta's don't like em either, (even the Sharks are creeped out.)
If they don't outlaw Stingrays on the street completely, (like pitbulls,) they should at lest, you know, 'register them, or make them live around their own kind.'
--and DON'T get me started on Horseshoe Crabs...
(Octopi aren't so bad, just a little too 'touchy feely..'
I dated one in college for a while,,, she took forever to get ready to go out, and it was always: 'does this make my tenticles look big??? -come here, let me hold you...' (..VERY poesssive / high maintenance.)

bare, no worries, mate ;)

james, i agree on both counts.

lacquer, LMAO!! (sits primly) well i think something's really got to be done about the jellyfish problem. you know we just can't have them lying about the beach looking like silicone breast implants. it's just obscene. i mean what do i say to the children. oh, it's a sad day when a family can't take their children to the beach for fear of having to explain it all. i'f they's just dress them or something it might be ok. it's just indecent as is.

I kinda saw it coming, I thought it would be by the jaws of a croc thought. I would say Crike, but I don't know how to spell it. I said it anyway. It is a shame, he was so young. Is is so sad, I feel bad for Teri and her their kids. He will be in my prayers.

It is quite a shame.....he wasnt afraid of anything....and he was so young. Nice picture of him.

Ack Lime! I think we now know what to do with all those too large bras!
Jellyfish bras! Why, you'd get two for one and all!

Ironic, truly a freak accident, given the amount of harm he placed himself in the way of. I feel for his wife and kids...

To me he was a great example of someone who found their passion that suited them to a tee. I had read that he had a really hard time sitting still, waiting, killing time, etc. That's one reason he was out filming extra footage with the rays, for his daughter's show, to show how harmless they were. But can you imagine if he had just settled for a desk job? We would have been out one fabulous entertainer/educator, not to mention a few good jokes. I look at him and see a bit of ADHD before it got so widely recognized and diagnosed. I also see someone who turned that kind of wiring into something passionate and fabulous. He was a role model in more than one way.

amber, yes, who thought it would be be some generally nonlethal animal?

aunt bea, ah yes, ok! glad youare still out there in mayberry. hugs to you.

catch, thanks. i love the pic too:)

bare, eeeeeeeek

lisa, yes, the family i really feel for and i certainly do think there was some serious ADHD going on but absolutely channelled into a very wonderful and productive thing. definitely a terrific example in that regard. hugs, cuz:)

Hi Lime, I'm trying to sort out some commenting problems for Doulas so came by to see if we Beta Bloggers could post here.
A great shame when the world loses anyone as dedicated as Steve.

I almost posted about this. I wish I did.

I have actually been upset all day about it.

I loved Steve Irwin - I thought he did a lot of good and was very entertaining. I feel so terrible for his wife and child. It's ironic that it wasn't a crock that did him in, but he died doing what he loved. (James already said that but it's what I've been thinking all day.)

I also adore the Kratt Brothers. Please tell me they were not attacked by angry lemurs???

Rest in peace Crocodile Hunter.

I know, I know, long dead thread...

...but, for the record... jellyfish (the Jersey Shore natural beach toy,)
-were never compared to breast implants... like ever, like, until I read this string... like, at the age of 43, having even lived down the shore for a number of years, (all through highschool, I have never, ever thought such a thing, '
-until now...

You have successfully 'retro-skeeved,' every visit to the beach I've ever had since 1963... (I am currenly hurling in the name of fried chicken (with sand,) eaten in 1984 and working my way back...)
