Weird Wednesday-Ooooh, pretty colors!

You all know I've been painting. Any of you who have ever painted have gone through bunches of paint chip colors trying to decide what you want. I have a bag of roughly 47,000 different colors each with their own distinctive name. I want the job of coming up with color names. There are some doozies out there. Here are a few I found in my bag...

'Vanillin.' Easy enough, you'd expect some sort of soft white color right? But why not call it vanilla instead of naming it after and artificial flavoring. How about the real deal. If we are going artificial and I paint my room vanillin, should I do the trim in saccharine?

If I wear 'Fuzzy Slippers' in my 'Boudoir' colored bedroom will you know my feet are pink and my walls are green?

'Overjoy' is a really nauseating shade of gold. I would not be at all overjoyed to stare at it. 'Delight' is pale pink. who decided pink is my delight? What if I think yellow or blue is a delight? Some people are just darned presumptuous.

I have paint chips with shades of green described as 'filmy,' 'liveable,' and 'gratifying.' What tones make a shade of green go from reminding you of the scum on your teeth after a hard night to a tolerable shade to one that just makes you feel glad to be alive?

And while we're at it, I've got a chip for 'Algonquin Trail.' Would the Iroquois, Comanche, or Cherokee have a different colored trail?

Anyone interested in a 'Gypsy Moth' room with 'Wet Concrete' trim? Don't those two colors just conjure up lovely shades?

'Ottertail' anyone? This makes me think of wet animals sliding down muddy embankments....hhhmmm, maybe it matches the hand and footprints of my own muddy son tracking dirt through the house.....I'll take a gallon of that.

'Rip Tide' is kind of a slate color with a tint of green to it. I dunno, I'm thinking maybe it should be the color of the bloated corpse of the drowning victim caught in it. There's another color for you...'Bloated Corpse.'

Why is 'White Room' a putrid, pale chartreuse?

Which color is 'Poetic' and what color are your 'Wishes?' They sure aren't what I think of.

I can say in all truth, however, that I am considering painting my bedroom a shade of pale yellow, with a hint of orange that is called 'Sweet Michelle.' I won't be trimming it in 'Lime' though.

* If you are a beta-blogger and you comment, would you please just add your blogger name to the end of your comment so I know who it is from. Blogger is clearly hiccuping and not adding beta names to comments at the moment.

Sweet Michelle sounds good, but what about Michell Delight? Something great to wake up to every morning you know:-)

LOVE this post!
I do a LOT of painting so I'm quite familiar with the goofy names.

I'm actually considering 'Bloated Corpse' for my master bath!

Wish we were neighbors because I have an awesome system I designed for choosing paint colors... I've helped several clients get over their fear of COLOR but currently it only works with Home Depot paint.

Wow! Such cool names for colours. I would go with fluffy slippers but seeing as, because of the makeover, I am now a butch super-hero I would go with Cape Red, or Utility belt yellow!

Lol... these names don't help much! Hope you have lots of help on your renovation project.

...and at least one room has to be painted in lime ... it's such a lovely color :)

I am feelin' ya on the paint colors since I am in the process of choosing the colors for each room in our new house . There are two colors we know for certain are going in the house , in Bethany's bedroom it will be a very pale LIME green which I am not sure of the actual name, and in Chesney's bedroom she is going with a pale yellow or if you want the technical name I think it is Oriental Silk. The outside will be done in vinyl siding which will be Pebblestone Clay and the Shutters will be done in Winestone and of course I chose black shingles . You have a good one !

LOL....that is hilarious.....I noticed that if you pay any attention to those names, instead of the actual color, you will NOT like it at all!

Have fun painting!

Yeah, when did it become necessary to come up with such extravagant names for colors, lol?

Have fun!!!! :D

LOL, love your comments. This post came at the right time. I'm going to paint my place pretty soon. Well, Lori is really going to paint it. I would help her, but she says she loves to paint and it wouldn't be right for me to deny her the joy of painting.

What got to me was the 17 billion shades of 'white' - I naively thought that you went to the shop and bought white paint...

So most of my walls are 'antique white' which I think is white but is apparently less white than 'halo' which is obviously 'whiter & brighter'. I'm unsure of its 'new and improved' status!

My toilet & laundry have a feature wall in 'smokey bushell' which is a browny, mushroomy purple.....

Good luck - I love painting :-)

I have never chosen a color because I liked the name, but I HAVE refused a color because I hated it.

I remember the same thing...I have lovely liliac, maple leaf, and cocoa puff in various locations in my house. And Jasperware...what the hell is Jasperware?

I am one of those people you wonder about - I help name colors for C2 Paint. Check out "Venus Envy"... Yes, it's true, we name our colors sitting by the pool and drinking adult beverages! :)

Have you ever heard of the color cochineal?
