Ever Have a Day Like This?

No fewer than 4 times I gave one Limelette the clear and direct instruction to clean up the kitchen after having baked and then go take a shower. Then Mr. Lime came to me and asked what she was to do and I told him, yet neither of these brain damaged individuals seemed to be able to comprehend that. Perhaps I was speaking in Swahili when I thought I was using standard English. Thank God my mother-in-law is here and could actually verify that I had truly given that instruction so clearly, directly and so many times. (That's right, my fellow Hijackers and those in the know, I said, 'Thank God she is here.')

Ya know, some days getting the simplest things done feels about like this....

In other news, I had another epiphany during a crisis Monday night. My great uncle was rushed to my local hospital even though it's not near where he lives. He was up here for a long weekend and had trouble. I ran over to lend moral support to my cousin. As my uncle was in ICU I watched his sisters, my 2 great aunts quarrel at his bedside in much the same manner my 2 teenage daughters would go at each other. It was not a serious disagreement and they are very close to each other. It merely gave me insight into sister dynamics. Since I have no sisters, Mr. Lime has no sisters, and neither of our mothers have sisters the whole cat fighting between sisters who actually love each other is a conundrum to me and often makes me wonder if mine really do love each other and whether or not they will be close when they are grown. I figure if my two aunts who would do anything for each other can go at each other like teenagers when they are both in their 80s (to the extent that I respectfully ejected them from my uncle's room so he and the other patients could rest peacefully) I guess there is hope for my girls and I can not worry quite so much as I do.

Good news is that after a big scare all signs are positive for my uncle at this point even though they are still trying to figure out what caused certain symptoms.

I wonder what tomorrow's grand enlightenment will be?

Lol... yeah, I have days like that as well. The last one involved lego bricks purposely spread around the whole living-room and me asking that they put back into the box again before bedtime.

Just one epiphany after another. I always thought an epiphany was a small colourful meadow-flower. Ya live and learn, eh?

Grand Enlightenment?

Does one have to go to the hospital or have 80 year old aunts to achieve this?

I have a sister. When we were teens, it was actually a weird comfort to me that I could fight with her when I didn't feel like I could purposefully engage in conflict with any other part of the world...with any other person. That felt too threatening. But even as I hurled a pair of Bass flats at my sister during spat, I had a deep internal sense of assurance that I could have a knock-down, drag-out with this sister of mine, and she wasn't going anywhere; the stakes weren't life or death, even though we acted that way during that minute.

Now she remains a best friend in life.

I am sorry to hear about your uncle and I am glad that he is okay.

I too give clear instructions around here on small simple things like your instructions and of course they don't get done. I always make sure to tell Mr. B that it is his responsibility to see that the appointed offspring completes the task given and if it isn't done then he will take the fall just like the offspring.

Most times I don't have to complain because he makes sure that they do what they are supposed to do but sometimes I get to blister ears!

I have learned throughout the years that even though it is a very rare thing, m-i-l's can come in handy every now and again! LOL!

I hope you have a good day!

Ouchy. Putting this sort of thing onto the husband isn't very nice to the husband. It puts the onus on him. It means he gets in trouble for something he didn't come up with. It makes him the bad guy. Its wrong on so many levels. Don't do that. You want it done, see to it. If he did that, it would last as long as a positron in lead.

Sounds like you've got your hands full no doubt! Glad to hear the uncle is on the mends.

As far as the sister thing goes? I have one that is 10 years older than me and yes, we have our moments and some times they get pretty bad. But those bad times are VERY few and far between. I love her and would do anything for her.

I can't wait to hear what the next adventure will bring....
Wacked out Wed maybe? lol

Wow!

I'm glad your uncle is n the mend.

Being a sister...I wanted to kill my sister most of my life. While we are like night and day...as adults we really appreciate one another. She is the witness to my life and my living. Like no one else.

I am going to set up a Lime shrine, I think.

Oh, and I tagged you today.

You are amazing, sistah.

I'm the youngest of three sisters (we're each 2-2-2 yrs apart) - growing up we fought frequently and viciously, never a kind word, never cut each other any slack. It got so bad between me and my middle sister when we were teens that I moved in with my dad (parent's were divorced obviously) for high school. Today, in our 30's - we're each others best friends. We survived those rough years and look back now in all our grand wisdom (*snort* yeah right) and laugh at some of the blood-drawing antics. Anyone who say's girls don't fight hard and dirty are wrong, but we also loved just as hard and the bond we share now can't be beat - pun intended!

Glad that your uncle is now better.

I find I have to give more step by step directions with my kids. Or it's half done. Like the time I told my oldest to please get the clothes out of the dryer (only in the winter time, or it's hanging on the line). She comes back empty-handed. I ask her where's the basket? She says to me, "Mom, you said take the clothes out of the dryer. You didn't say bring the basket." (No wonder I am getting a few gray hairs!) I have to repeat things with them sometimes because something didn't get done. Selective hearing loss? Pfft.

I have two sisters. One is four and a half years older than me and the other is fourteen months older than me. We had our fights, but we care about each other. Sisters have a special bond. We may cut each other down, but if an outsider cuts one of us down, we defend her fiercely.

I have three sisters, one was closer in age to me. We fought CONSTANTLY. My two older sisters fought constantly, too. They were some ugly fights, believe you me. I stayed away.

Glad your uncle is doing okay. As for following instructions, I'm sure my wife sees me in the same vein as those guards from the Monty Python clip whenever she gives me instructions. But here's the reason why the instructions never set in. Whenever she'd relaying them to me, all I want to do is sing and dance.
