Friday 55 & Da Count- Growing Pains

FRIDAY 55-Children

Once I was your universe
containing you in darkness.

You emerged to light
and I became the sun
on which to center your orbit.

Now you slip my bonds of gravity
and fling yourself
among the stars.

Blaze bright, find the path
that allows me
glimpses of glory
and leaves no crater
upon my heart.

DA COUNT-Parents

After my mini-vacation I mentioned that during my time I had a couple of epiphanies. They were mostly related to my father. I've wrestled with what to include and what to withhold. I will keep it simple and say that there was opportunity for long conversation, which is always an unusual thing with my dad. During those conversations a few things came to light. Two of them were things I had serious doubts as to where he stood. One other was an area I long ago resigned myself to never having him address in a way which accepted any level of responsibility. By many standards he could still be found very wanting in these 3 areas but I have to count that there is any indication of positive action or recognition of that in others. It was a small and very unexpected token during a nearly unheard of and delicate moment of openness and yet it felt like exponential growth.

Your 55 is beautiful ... like the author. And your count is truly a blessing. Talk to you later, babe.

Lime, I think many of us would like to believe that epiphanies in our lives happen like those movie moments. The slow turn and look of realization as the music swells, etc. I think yours is actually the more powerful in a subtle moment. 55 is great but your count today stellar!

Cheers!

Nice poem, Lime. And good to hear about the encouraging, if extremely vague, father-related news. :)

Very nice poem, Lime. And concerning da count, I'm always amazed at how well you explain things that are hard to explain.
Cheers!

Growth it seems, is something many of us do more of after we attain a stable height. I'm glad for you. I'm glad for all of us.

Well, sometimes our perceptions pull our legs - maybe life isn't that complicated after all - even close relationships!

Btw: I need you to vote for me - Please :-)

Nice poem. I dabble with poetry myself. It's easier to write, though.

Off to figure out what Friday 55 really is without looking dumb...

I loved you're 55 and what really "counts" is that you took the chance to grow when you got the opportunity.

You are the Queen of Subtext. In other words, you manage to pack to much into so little. The 55...well, yes, you've just given me a huge glimpse of my next decade. And the paragraph about your dad? It's a novel there, really. Oprah would want it for her book club.

what an extraordinary 55. I absolutely love it.

I'm glad you and your dada were able to talk and clear some things up.

Loved the "55" - 'tis so true.

Those moments of openness with parents are rare indeed.

I love your 55, I did not see the subject and, as I read on, I said she must be talking about children. And sure enough, when I was done... there is was in the title. Very nice and all in 55 words. You my friend have a nice talent there. Oh and good for you on the mini breakthroughs. You take what you can get but that sounds wonderful.

You are so lucky and I am so jealous (and happy) that you have been able to ,mainly, resolve some of the issues with your dad. I have yet to have that experience.
