Treat Yourself

Friday night all the kids were out of the house. Mr. Lime was also otherwise engaged. It meant I had some time alone when I had nothing pressing to accomplish. I decided to wander around a local graveyard. No, this is not because I was depressed. I was inspired by my visit to Boston and I like the really old cemeteries. After my visit with the dead I walked up the street to my favorite funky ice cream parlor. The sign beckoned me. I had to obey.

Mmmmm....

Saturday morning I slept in then had a leisurely morning giving myself a facial and various other beauty rituals while I listened to Car Talk on NPR. What can I say? I have to counteract the high estrogen stimulation with a little boyishness to maintain balance. It's my idea of a fun Saturday morning.

So, what do you do to treat yourself or when you want to relax?

I'm more of a topping person than an ice cream person - that hot fudge, whipped cream and cherry look soooo good! My kids would love to have an ice cream parlor to visit. All we have are the local stands.

I usually relax with a good book, a latte and cookies.

Bubble bath and a mani-pedi~~Which I am in DIRE need of lol...
As for food? I'm with Cocotte,,,Got to get some whipped cream~ on a nice chocolate Martini!!

Everything about that sundae looks fantastic and very, very chocolatey!

Since I work in a bookstore, I don't tend to drift there when I have some time to myself. Now I tend to enjoy having the house to myelf and turning off all the noise while I sit and read, which means I fall asleep for a short nap!

Oh, I love Caw Tawk! Those guys are hilarious, and helpful too. Did you ever see the Arthur cartoon where the car is making a funny noise so they call car tawk (and it's the real car tawk guys guest voicing on the cartoon) and hold the phone down to the exhaust....
"It sounds like a rattle"
"yes is it rattling"
No, a rattle. A baby rattle."

Sure enough, Baby Kate had stuffed her rattle into the exhaust pipe! Har har har!

That does look delicious.

What do I like to do to relax? A nice hot lavender scented bubble bath!

Happy Monday, Lime!

Just about any food item can be a nice treat for me. If I'm feeling a bit tense, a massage is good. Ah, hell, anything having to do with touch and/or taste will do it. Both combined is even better.

Oh, gosh, Lime. . . You have time to relax? You obviously don't have enough kids yet. . . ;)

On rare occasions when I have some slack time all to myself, I like to hole up with a good book and a glass of wine (or, in the summertime, maybe a margarita). Not so much in recent years, but when I was younger, I used to enjoy solving math problems to help me relax. But I'm weird that way. . .

Now, for sheer ice-cream-ic decadence, I like a hot fudge sundae, with coffee ice cream, if you please. . . (altho, I don't do the whole ice-cream thing very often anymore. . .)

Amateur genealogist that I am, I've spent my share of time wandering thru cemeteries, and I've been known to organize my trips out-of-town so as to include a side-trip to a cemetery I know I've got ancestors in. When our kids were little, I did it often enough, that, if we happened to drive past a cemetery, the kids would ask why we weren't stopping there. . . ;)

I love cemeteries too.

When I want to relax I head for the bookstore. Though ice cream works great too.

The cineam works for me :)

Death and Ice Cream . . . sounds like a new morbid flavor from Ben and Jerry. Ice cream is good therapy, I prefer Chunky Monkey myself. Music is a good relaxer also, some mellow jazz like the Yellowjackets or Spyro Gyra work.

Love the blog, Lime!

Good call, Chris. . .

I forgot to mention Earl Klugh or Laurence Juber. . .

oh wow! that sounds awesome, i love car talk, facials and sugar.

i treat myself with...mmm....massages occasionally. actually, i feel like my whole life is a treat.

ok. maybe sometimes a sour treat like those hard lemon candies, but still, it's treat central around here.

s, hhaha yes i remember the car talk on arthur.

suldog, massage...aaahhhh....unfortunately that doesn't always fit my budget. and i can't argue with your taste/touch combo!

desmond, as i said, i did the book thing too. another good relaxation activity. solving math problems to relax? uh, does not compute. and i am giggling at how you had your kids conditioned to graveyards.

jazz, problem with me in a bookstore is then i spend money!

casdok, that['s always fun too...well, except when the movie really stinks.

chris, lol, maybe i should suggest that flavor to B&J. i'm a fan of chubby hubby and karamel sutra....mmm....oh yeah, and my ipod gets me in the zone too. so glad you stopped by:)

mary, see? no wonder i like you. there must be this whole subculture of women who like facials and car talk...or else you, me and susie are just 3 anomalies.

That sundae looks great. I often get hot chocolate as a treat. Bubble baths with a glass of wine. Lazing around late in bed when I don't have to go to work. Actually, there are a million things I enjoy.

Mmmm ... chocolate! That's my Lime! It looks really yummy! I love to treat myself.

The farewell lunch was great, but no, Tommy Gunn was not there. He was actually coming into the restaurant when we were leaving and I talked to him for a minute. He said he's call and we'd get together for lunch, but I'm not holding my breathe. I've sent him a few emails, but he's switched jobs in the office and I guess is a lot more busy now!

thanks for stopping by!

You would really dig Charleston, when I drop down that way its easy for me to get lost in time reading all the old tombstones and vaults telling far more about the remains inside than I ever expected.

I summon my beautician at home and take a facial and full body massage or I love to sunbathe with a glass of lemonade or iced tea ,or at time I listen to my favorite ghazals ( Urdu poetry sung by great singers)

What a great treat and that looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO yummy!

My friend Wendy and I go to Little Italy once a month for cannolis and cappuccino. It a sweet treat and a chance to catch up on girl talk. OR if I am lucky enough to have the house to myself...I relax with a nice glass of red wine and a good book with the dogs outside for an hour. Total solitude and peace.

Well, lime I've been a bad girl. I had a banana shake on Sunday, a blueberry shake today and then my husband brings me a McDonalds carmel sundae tonight! But, who cares I like being bad...

Relax...like to read...have the wine close by...some classical music on...maybe a quick hot tub fix (but that's too easy)...perhaps a massage...but have to bribe my husband or trade with him...

I get into my artwork and that relaxes me too. I do enjoy going to a local used bookstore and getting lost in there sometimes.
I used to like to go to Borders and hang out....some of them used to have musicians come in and play. I would sit with the java and magazines and listen to the music. You can tell I'm an old fart! :D

OMG! Drool! That looks so yummy. And I thought I was tripping the light fantastic yesterday with a vanilla cone at a fast food choke & gag...

I love old grave yards too~ :)

Relax? Sit by the lake and feed the fish, listen to the birds, drink a cold beer.

cooper, sure you can...or you can whisper it to me.

beach bum, those old ones have far more soul than the more sterilized new ones

mona, oh man do i love a full body massage

jillie, the little italy dates sound like a great time

lulda, i could enjoy a nice used bookstore. the local one is run by a complete grouch so it's not much fun

david, it was my kind too!

Ah, a date with yourself.

I hope there was no ugly break-up at the end.

True but... I have "gained" other things while being bed and house bound. My whims must be kept to bubble baths lol~
