Slice of Lime-Smorgasm

You Are Smores

Unusual and unconventional, you make your strange ways work for you.

You've got personality - no one's denying that!

What Dessert Are You Most Like?

Well, fancy that. I do love all sorts of desserts and that includes smores. This past weekend we attended our first cookout of the season which allowed for the first smores of the season.

Understand that I am a bit particular about how I create a smore. I want the perfect blend of melted (not still solid) chocolate and gooey marshmallow stickiness. I am also partial to using the cinnamon graham crackers for some extra flavor. First I put the bottom cracker on a stone near the fire with the chocolate on top so the chocolate can start to soften while I roast the marshmallow. This is an important consideration.

In recent years, the marshmallow roasting technique has been enhanced by a new fork just for the job. I found telescoping roasting forks with rotisserie action. Laugh if you want. I am not opposed to the idea of jamming my marshmallow on the end of a stick. I've done that a lot. The fork seems to hold more securely. Since the handle is round and you can spin it with your thumb it's easier to find the perfect spot in the fire to constantly rotate the marshmallow over while keeping it parallel to the fire (as opposed to tipped upside down into it), thus insuring even browning while preventing the marshmallow from sliding off the stick into the flames. Proper marshmallow position and rotation allows for a slow, gentle swelling and browning to occur. This indicates full cooking throughout the entire marshmallow so there whole thing becomes a thin crust containing warm marshmallow goo. It's all about taking time in your technique.

Once the marshmallow is perfectly roasted I use the top cracker to gently slide it off onto the bottom cracker with the prewarmed chocolate and make the smore. Then it's time to have a smorgasm because they are just that yummy.

You are the gourmet chef of s'more-dom. . .

Altho. . . I dunno. . . I've never had a smorgasm. Is it a 'technique' thing?

;)

"It's all about taking time in your technique"Yeah a lot of life is like that.
I definitely want s'more of that.

Maybe it's time to share this bit of Americana with the Japanese. If they like it they might buy me a new Toyota.

Apparently I'm a brownie:
"Decadent and intense, you aren't for the weakhearted.
Those who can deal with your strong flavor fi"nd out how sweet you really are.

Make me some smores. I've never had that perfect smorgasm inducing smore.

I'm strawberries with cream. What did I answer wrong!!! I said my favourite food was chocolate... maybe it's because I was honest and said I'm not sweet. Is it my fault I'm an evil bitch?

"Proper marshmallow position and rotation allows for a slow, gentle swelling and browning to occur." Mr. P has blue pills for that.

I think I just had a smorgasm reading about you making one! The only thing better than chocolate is melting chocolate and melty marshmallow...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm afraid to take the quiz for fear the answer would be "Far too many desserts!"

I haven't had a s'more in awhile. For a time, to make it fun for the boys, we had been making them in a microwave. Desperate times call for desperate measures and when momma needs her chocolate, that's the definition of desperate!

P.S Fun link! I love that I'm a "brownie". Whahoo!

...and to think i've always just popped mine in the microwave. yours sound SOOOOOO much better.

I had to chuckle a bit over the description given for you -"Unusual and unconventional." Do ya think? Hah. From reading your blog I'd say that is a pretty apt description at least from my view of how you are. Yeah, one could say you do often march to your own drumbeat -just take a look at how you usually handles the memes when you do them!

Never been big on marshmallows. I was (and still am) one of those weird kids who wasn't particularly into sweets.

Still... I've always been up for trying something different... like smores when I was in college. Liked them ok... but wasn't something I craved.

I'll have to try that melted chocolate technique. I can see how that would make a difference. I like my marshmallows done pretty much the same way you do. My wife lets hers get charred. :-(

I came out cheesecake.

I have two s'mores making tips.
One is the same as yours:
Lie the chocolate on the cracker neear the fire to allow it to begin melting.
and two: don't use an oleander stick when roasting them!

You're wearing the Mowgli outfit!
Stay away from that zipline!

Mmmmm Smores!!! And yes, id does seem quite appropriate for you to be like a smore! :)

I'll have to try out your technique on the next camping trip!

You say Ugh mayonaise and I say EWWEEEE! marshmallows.

I'm cheesecake, apparently. Strangely, however, I am not rich, so how can that be?

For me, I just make s'mores by picking up the chocolate and eating it--ignoring the marshmallows and graham crackers.

Hey, and the annotation in my vlog about Hugh Jackman? Put there TOTALLY for you.

Of course.

This post made me think of a story which I posted (thanks, I was looking for material) and thanks for the hint regarding getting the chocolate soft... I hate when the smores don't have an equal ratio of melty'ness.

You take smores preparation to a whole other level.

I'm cheesecake.
And I'm also of the desperate microwaving smores variety.

I am also a brownie... Must be why I like to use choco grahams for my s'mores!

marshmallows are to be roasted???

OMG No wonder I hated it..I tried to eat it raw!

I am : You Are Tiramisu!
Light and lovely, you pack a punch.
You never overwhelm... but you always leave a lasting impression.

When I took the youth group surfing last year, one of the boys prepared my s'more as such:

He would stack a square of chocolate on half a graham cracker, and hold it close to the fire to get the chocolate melty. Then he roasted the marshmallow so that it was barely brown on the outside, and almost liquid goo on the inside.

::sigh::
Yup -- my youth kids spoil me rotten.

My God, you've fine-tuned your smore technique to the extreme. Me, I get impatient and eat the thing while it's still lumpy and cold.

I would be strawberries and cream~ Fresh and uncomplicated, you are always enjoyed but often overlooked. You're confident in who you are. You don't need a facade to feel better about yourself.

Interesting... I love those dang games! :)
