FRIDAY 55
At first there is a faint tap tap tapping.
I turn to see who may be there and it stops.
Then several distinct knocks are repeated.
I search for the one wanting entrance.
The pounding begins
and it sounds like we are under siege.
I realize there is no impending invasion.
It's only acorn season.
DA COUNT
I guess counting my first paycheck earning job in 19 years would be the most obvious count. Even if it involves hazing by some real nuts. I am indeed grateful for the opportunity. This week has felt more than a bit nuts at time with all the information I was required to absorb in quick order while I was sick but I made it through.
Diana has been driven nuts by her roommate but I also want to count the contact she has initiated with me. I'm glad she felt like I was offered a safe place to dump and to share some other things with me as well. She also sent me a few pieces of writing asking for my opinion on them. They were not assignments but some things she was writing for her own pleasure. She said I always drove her nuts when I edited her writing assignments but here she is voluntarily asking my opinion.

Let's hear it for PAYDAY!!
You are making me check the way I act at the doctor's office, I am known to have short fuse to wait more than 15 min, and irritated at the never ceasing NEW forms every time I return... I will try to picture you across the counter from now on :)
Great 55 reminded me of Nicaragua and the Iguanas jumping on the tin roof. I really thought we were under attack.
Mine is posted
HERE.
Loved your 55 Trini...
But your 'D' story made me smile!
It's awesome when an offspring realizes that you love and actually care about them...
Those little moments are precious!
Have a Great Week-End...G
Acorns, a pay cheque <--- (Canadian spelling, eh) and a child seeking advice. Sounds like a true harvest. I'm happy for you. :)
So it all turned out right in the end. Nicely done.
At first I thought it was someone trying to wake you up for your new busy style day!
Have a restful weekend, working girl!
When I saw you were Count-ing nuts, I worried, for just a millisecond or so. But really, that wouldn't quite be your style, would it? ;)
It really is precious when the progeny leave home, and start to value you as possibly being 'older-and-wiser', rather than just 'in-the-way-of-all-the-fun-I-could-be-having', ain't it?
Nice count and one of value too. That shift in relationship between parent and child into something more makes me smile. Savor that as it deepens.
Congratulations on your first payday! Yay!
As for daughter, that is exactly what my Bear did... all the things she grumped about became things that she appreciated as she matured. That is wonderful, lime, truly.
That is exciting news about you and Diana! I've learned (the hard way) that we cannot assume a continued close relationship when our kids grow up. For baby pics of my grandson, I still need to check my daughter's Facebook. :-(
I love this ending. Very good one!
Mine is up there too!
Smiles :)
I thought Edgar Allen Poe was in de house...LOL Nice job!
I got paid today and was happy to see it was cornacopia of dollars! :D I'm up...
Yay for your first paycheck!
pay day? does that mean the drinks are on you? i'll take a Guinness.
Love it when the kids ask for our opinion!
Indeed that would be something to count! I am so glad about the bond building along afresh with Diana !
I LOVE hazel nuts!
Acorns! That was a great piece!
Nice segueing into nuts ;) I love your poem.
Day before yesterday I heard an early morning knock at the door downstairs - I jumped out of bed tousled and not quite awake to find... nobody outside. As I climbed the stairs back to bed, I heard the acorn woodpecker knock knock knocking at the side of the house, making a cache hole for his acorns.
Both of these are occasion for a huge whoop of YEA, BABY!
While the paycheck is cool, the contacts with Diana prove for once and all how smart you were to go without a paycheck for all those years; you were building up the foundations of a lifetime.
With any job, you're going to have to deal with b.s. It's part of work. With each different profession, there's an entirely different set of b.s. you have to deal with. But it's still b.s.
It's always good to know that someone is comfortable enough to spill their heart out to you. Shows that someone believes you are good enough as a person to share their heart with. :)
Good luck with the paycheck earning job! :-)
Glad to hear Diana still wants your help - how sweet!
Love the 55 its great got to love Fall and all the fun stuff like acorns that come with it
OH yeah my 55 is up too.
