I began going grey in my early 30s. It became quite noticeable in my mid 30s. Today it's undeniable. I have often said I would never dye my hair. I have a number of good friends who are 10-15 years older than I am and who all dye their hair. They have been trying to persuade me for a very long time to start dyeing. I tell them dye is for garments, not hair. A couple of years ago they threatened to kidnap me, get me drunk, and dye my hair when I passed out. I told them their plan was doomed to failure since they tipped their hand but if they somehow managed to succeed I'd shave my head the very next day.
I happen to like my grey hair. I am comfortable with it even if it makes me look older because everyone else my age dyes theirs so they look younger. I like my stripe best. I like the way is swoops over one eye on a good hair day. It's fun. It's got personality. Why would I pay someone to take it away?
That said, when one of the friends who threatened me with kidnapping and a coercive dye job asked me to put pink in my hair for the co-conspirator who now has breast cancer, I wouldn't have dreamed of saying no. I made sure they all understood I was not waffling on my original statement. I merely revised it to be more specific. I will not ever dye my hair for the purpose of hiding grey. However, I will very gladly put in a splash of pink to show solidarity and give a morale boost to a friend who needs it.
I'll even give over my favorite stripe to the cause.

Your willingness to go pink doesn't surprise me in the least.
Nothing wrong with gray hair. Personally, I think the world would be a better place if people just accepted what the Lord has given... or in my case, what the Lord has taken away.
My son complains when I brush his thick, beautiful hair. Someday he and I will sit down with the family album and have "the talk."
So there are two of us who don't dye. Though I did for 20+ years. And surprisingly, I've been regularly complimented on my hair since I let it go natural

I'm with you, tho - let Nature have its way. I'm developing quite the 'tonsure' on the crown of my head. I like to say it's expressive of my latent monastic tendencies, but Jen likes to say that she'll give me eight kids' worth of 'latent monastic tendencies'. . .
She'd love to be going gray, but alas, Nature has not blessed her with the 'Gray Gene'. . . Poor thing.
cocotte, no it wasn't hard. the girl bleached out that section of hair first since there was some dark hair mixed in. washed out the bleach after a time, then applied the pink. rinsed the excess out after a bit and voila...a pink lady was born.

jazz, grey girls unite! one of the ladies present at pink hair day was over 90 years old and she has the most gorgeous main of snow white hair. just stunning.

I used to wonder why my father didnt have grey hair...i even wondered if he dyed it....now I am 49 and I have JUST starting getting grey. I am not rubbing that in, I finally understand why my dad didnt get grey, heredity! Of course, heredity has also caused this family much short and stockiness, I suppose a trade off for the not grey hair.
I will say this:
I WILL DYE MY HAIR! I might even have to make it purple or something since I have never done it....

I like the gray and I like the pink, too. I doubt that I'd ever dye my hair, but the thing that drives me crazy is when guys wear bad rugs on their head. If my hair goes, I'm just gonna let it go. No way to the toupée.
I thought to comment on your remark about shaving your head, but we've already seen a picture of you as a clean-shaven Borg.
I have always thought that your particular grey was quite sexy (I mean that in the most I'm-just-a-friend way, if Mr. Lime is reading.) But, the willingness to go pink for a friend is you all the way. God bless you, and her.

To me, the decision whether to dye your hair or not doesn't have a right or wrong attached to it - it's entirely a decision of personal style. Like wearing make-up or not, getting your ears pierced or not, and so on.
