Ya Wanna Know What Really Grinds My Gears?

Self-entitled ingratitude.  Yeah, that really irks the ever living crap outta me.  When I am bending over backwards for the well-being of someone and then get slapped in the face for it and have it made out like I've failed them somehow or foisted something on them against their will; when I have gone to the point of sheer exhaustion and then found a way to continue pushing forward because it's that important; when I have deprived myself for someone's sake; when several other people put themselves out for this same person and after all that get I dumped on by the recipient of such benevolence it takes me by surprise and hurts like hell the first time. The second time it just plain pisses me off for my sake and the sake of the others who have given so much.

Your turn, since I don't want to be the only one venting here.  What grinds your gears?

And finally, to steal Suldog's line, (since I normally prefer to keep a more positive tone around here but just needed to get that off my chest today)....Soon with more better stuff.

I know you're having a rant but I can't stop giggling over the label to your post. Did it work?

Well, no good deed goes unpunished. That's what I always say, to my children's delight and my wife's dismay. Of course, we do it anyway, but still....

On a smaller scale, no doubt, i buy my son a doughnut after Mass. It's a bit of a tradition around here. My grandfather did it, my father did it, and now I do it. I think it comes from the old-fashioned Communion fast, which used to be from midnight on Saturday 'til whenever you made it to Mass. Naturally, you'd have a lot of ravenous people leaving the Church.

Anyway, yesterday, #1 son asked if we could go to the real bakery and get an eclair instead. Fine. We did that and got another for #2 son, who's still a bit young to sit through our non-kid-friendly services.

Arrived home where #2 freaked out that he didn't get a doughnut. Yep. You're welcome.

And they wonder why Daddy just shuffles around mumbling.

Hmn, I'm guessing the ungrateful urchin of which you write also happens to be a family member - usually it's only blood which can be that demanding AND pick-thankful!

I love the label, too. Me? I am totally sick of being used and abused as a free after school taxi ride for all my kids and their multitude of friends. Car-pooling would be fine, shit, it would be FANTASTIC - if the parents involved made a semblance of honouring the deal. I'm the one with 4 kids, I'm the one with the husband who works away, I am the one with the autistic child - WTF is wrongggggggg with these people??

gee, thanks for that, I feel much better now!

What grinds my gears?

A "friend" that tries to pass off some lie that is as transparent as pure crystal glass. It not only hurts my feelings but insults my intelligence.

What grinds my gears? Pretty much what you're talking about.

PS: If it makes you feel any better, I've put your name down for an interview on the Sunday Roast with Eddie (<a href="http://eddybluelights.blogspot.com/2010/10/jazz-roast.html> right here </a>

Well, I usually say that stuff like that grinds my ass, but I know you're tryin' to keep things on a higher plane than that. . . ;)

As far as the grindage itself, what you describe is pretty high on my list, too. It's an especially aggravating sub-case of self-absorbed-ness (?) more generally. . .

I just hate mean people. That really grinds my gears.
Can I have two?
I really hate it that some people in the country beleive that, 1. all muslims are taliban, and 2. that our president is part of this giant terrorist taliban scheme. This makes me crazyyyyyy!

people who sabbotage things. our area phoneline was sabbotaged by the last chair, who should have been removed from his position but he was such a con man that the groups kept him until his term was up. now we spent over half the weekend trying to fix this and now we have to call in tech support.
he knew what he did. he did it on purpose. that pisses me off there are newcomers who will not get through the phone lines because he did this. that is who he hurt the most with this.

Your post, and especially Cricket's comment, reminds me of a story My Father told me.

He had recently been promoted to a supervisory position, and he thought it would be a nice gesture on his part if he bought a dozen donuts for the guys on his staff to eat during break. He did so, and was thanked. So far, so good.

He continued buying a dozen donuts for a couple of weeks, out of his own pocket. The thanks became few and far between. One Monday, about three weeks into the job, he just plain forgot to buy any donuts. That day, he was greeted by a chorus of unhappy workers demanding to know where their dozen donuts were.

Sometimes, after a while, a gift becomes viewed as an entitlement. Sad, but true.

My Dad told them that they were lucky to have had free donuts for as long as they did, and if they didn't appreciate the gesture, they could now buy their own %$^#@$! donuts. You might go forth and do likewise?

Ketchup on hot dogs. No; I tolerate that okay, especially when it is done by children who don't know better.

Littering gets to me. That says in effect, "your world is my garbage can."

Oh, and Democrats. (Just kidding, S.) (hug)

I really hate it when the doctor's office tells you to be 15 minutes early to your appointment and then you sit in the waiting room for OVER AN HOUR with your little boy who has A BROKEN ARM. Seriously. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Ha to the label too!

Its hard to choose one thing that grinds my gears. I agree with all that I see here. I guess I'll have to say, mindless red tape.

Ha, my comment word is "didimm"... which is a kind of gear grinding that I do like. ;-)

My crazy family has stripped my gears....not much left to grind...

Oh wait! I remember...people who don't cross the street at the light or stop sign. Especially when kids do it....

LOL Craver, so nice of you to come by and warn this tree hugger! It's all good, we are the world, we are the children, we are all one, whether we like it or not!

Oh, a long list. People who think they are somehow deserving of better treatment than the rest of us. Bad drivers. Rudeness. But I'm trying to learn to let some of that go.

And then you have to decide if you can put up with it any longer, or if big changes need to take place. Oy.

Too brain dead to thing of gear grinders right now. Hmmm. Wait: flies. We are under siege. They make it so I can't sleep. Yup, flies.
