FRIDAY 55
Something exposed by erosion catches her eye.
She recognizes its value
and begins to carefully unearth it,
digging through layers of history,
each with a story to tell...
broken tools used long ago,
ancient writings with meanings to be decoded.
Dust and debris are cleared away to reveal the treasure.
Her desk is finally clean.
DA COUNT
I was a pack rat as a kid. It drove my mother insane. Twice a year she'd make me go through my room and weed through all my stuff, ditching at least half of it. I can't describe how much I hated that. Now I'm the mom and periodically, I have an urge to purge. The first time my mom witnessed me independently develop the itch to get rid of accumulated stuff she let out a cheer. She couldn't believe the kid who resisted so violently was now purging her belongings on her own. I've got the urge again...I just need time to do it...but I've started with my desk. Yes, Mom, I am glad you made me go through the process when I was a kid.

I can't tell you how many times I head into the weekend with the goal of cleaning my desk, only to get back to Monday with the same piles of mess that were there all along. Sometimes, tho, I manage to at least scrape some of the piles together. . .
(*sigh*)
Your Desk?
I was ready to buy a pack mule and come visit!
Most excellent 55 Trini.
Stellor Effort considering your Ague!
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
Don't you feel like a weight has been lifted. I love it when everything is in it's place...ahhh.

Was a pack rat growing up too. Like the resolution in Da Count. Cool 55 too.
Haha! I was like that growing up too. Now I can't stand the mess. I am constantly tossing stuff around the house. :)
I love surprise endings and this one was a beauty.
My 55 is HERE .
But - not a desk. Surely a desk is immune from purges. Well, mine is anyway.
my desk is probably growing things worthy of a dig or something as we speak.
Fantastic 55

Friday Flash 55
That was an ingenious and nicely put together 55. I've had desks that needed an archaeological dig myself. Now I have a whole computer room to clean out...someday.
lol! I loved this! I'm still excavating and wondering if I'll find any buried treasure...
Loved your poem Michelle! Yes, tidy-ups happen to us all occasionally. - Dave
Funny, I just did my desk yesterday....and I do so want to get into Catgirl's room and do a major dig, but she would have a fit. So, I'm stuck with nagging at her until she does it herself. But maybe I'll sneak in when she goes back to school... :D
My kids are all pack rats and it drives me insane. Sometimes I think they are really just too lazy to walk three feet to a trash can.
My gosh, I thought you were talking about my desk hehe...actually it's not that bad right now. I have pack rats too. It's hard to get them to part with anything.

Have a great weekend. :))
My father used to be a pack rat. i say used to be because he is gone now. he probably has a huge pile of junk wherever he his now. i try to keep my file organized but alas the other day i had my oldest help me in the garage and she said 'mom your NOT allowed to file anymore.' apparently i'm not good at it.
I've been cleaning out the apartment of a pack rat for the last several months. It has given me the urge to get rid of lots of my own stuff, already boxes upon boxes of books have headed out the door.
As soon as I've finished that apartment, the rest of mine will be weeded out. All the stuff seems to weigh on me physically.
And a propos of nothing, I love the word verification: Uppepoti
Great story- both-
I do the same,( purging) twice a year-
But I hate cleaning my drawers and scraps of potential fascinations!
Thanks!
The 55 cracked me up!
Cleaning a desk is a major task! My 55
haha and here i thought you were talking about the drawer in my bedside table...
Reading this I am looking at my desk and looking up in the sky too! Well, the roof!!
LOL!
Here is mine:
curtain of pebbled path
I used a technique with my kids that I called "piling." I'd dump everything in their room, from the drawers, under the bed, in the closet, EVERYTHING, in a huge pile in the middle of the room. When it was cleaned up and put away, there were always a couple of trash bags full of junk left over. Worked like a charm.
But anyone comes near my desk in an attempt to pile, they lose an arm.
I get that urge at least a couple of times a year.
What a clever and amusing 55!
I loved the poem and the story,,, cleverly written, with a nice surprise ending. nice 55.
cheers,
joanny
We're on the same wave length this day my friend. I'm purging a closet this weekend or I'm afraid my husband will say "adios"! :/
p.s. My mom was the same way!! :D
Well, I do periodly move things - from my desk to a box...but, then, there's the damn box with which I have to deal at some point in time. Your 55 made me go out and look at the neatly piled boxes in my garage!
