Rest

The Bible says even God rested on the 7th day after creating the universe and all it contains.  I don't feel guilty for needing one if even the Creator saw fit to do so.  It seems frequently my need and the demands around me are at odds.  This is even more the case in the last couple of months.

I don't work today...well, not for a paycheck anyway.  Right now I am blogging from bed.  I'm awake but not willing to get up yet.  Once I'm vertical my day will be driven by paying bills, doctor's appointments, phone calls arguing with insurance companies and billing departments, running the mom taxi, laundry, and the list goes on.

I ran across this simple site and followed the directions .  In fact, it's still playing in the background as I lay here.  It reminded me of the best night's sleep I ever got.  It was during the bicycle trip I was on the summer of 1987 when a group of us went from East Coast to West Coast in 65 days. (If you're interested go to the archives from the summer of 2007.  I posted a new chapter every Tuesday.) One night we slept on top of a cliff along US-1 in Big Sur, California.  We rolled out our bags under some tall trees and slept on a cushy bed of evergreen needles.  We fell asleep to the sound of the ocean and woke to the same.  It was blissfully relaxing.

So anyway, I am taking a breather for a few minutes and sharing it with you in case you need it.  Tell me how you define rest and what was your best night's sleep in the comments if you'd be so kind.

Rest is anytime you're doing what you want to do, be it sleeping or be it awake. Everything else is work.

The best night of sleep I ever got is a hard one to pin down. I generally sleep well and enjoy the experience. I can more readily recall the bad nights because they're rarer.

Sleep during the day has been very problematic for me the last couple of weeks so I decided to do something similar an engineer an extended four day weekend which started yesterday. I figure I have plenty of leave time and I'm ahead of schedule at work so why not just take in excessively easy?

Going to do laundry, watch bad sci-fi and war movies, and write when the urge hits.

Thank you for the lovely break. It was nice to open my eyes, and be told, "Well done".

Rest: a respite, cessation of striving

Best night's sleep: I don't remember. I think I slept through the whole thing.

rest= not sewing
well, to be honest, best sleep would be when Gary is out of town and there is no snoring, blanket stealing, bed hogging, elbow jabbing, talking in sleep, tossing and turning...now thats a best night sleep.
But I could go on, the best night sleep recently, in Delhi at the Y, after 9 days of partying in Goa, the last two which I didnt sleep a wink.
I fell asleep at about 3 pm, completely unbothered my major construction in the hotel. I woke up at 11 pm, stayed awake two hours, then slept from one am to 9 am the next day, 16 hours total!!! Boy oh boy i felt good after that.

Okay, I know I did it wrong, but I think it is so funny that the do-nothing site gives a big "fail" if you move the mouse. And I find that so funny, that I think I might wiggle the mouse, even if I was down to the last few seconds! Ha ha ha ha...

I'm a chronic insomniac, so I don't have an answer for this one!

Rest=not having to get dressed and reading a book.

Naps are sometimes the best sleep! I am trying to think of my best night's sleep...no particular night comes to mind. I do remember my cat Pumpkin sleeping on my shoulder. She was great. I had to take benadryl but I loved it when Pumpkin snuggled with me.

I'm with Jim on rest. If you're doing what you want to be doing, it's pretty restful... even things that for some people would be work.

Same with the sleep. I slept pretty well last night. I expect that again tonight. I can think of times I slept a long time, but those were strangely not restful. More exhaustion.

Hope you get some rest.

Well, you know, I've occasionally been known to work thru a few math problems to relax. Your results may vary. . .

Best sleep I've had is usually when I've done some hard physical labor. Or ridden my bike a hundred miles or so. . .
