And Now For Something Happy and Hopeful

This weekend we did have the chance to enjoy a lovely wedding of the children of some friends. It also gave me a chance to get Boom-Boom out again. I don't think I've been to an outdoor wedding before. This was the setting. The photo doesn't do justice to how beautiful the scene was in a clearing surrounded by tall pines with the sun filtering through but here is the altar.  Although non-flash photography was permitted during the ceremony and others were snapping away and I had a nice angle I felt it would have been kind of rude to lift my camera and click.  I guess I'm a little old school.

On the altar were the separate bottles of sand which the bride and groom funneled into a common vessel while the minister discussed the symbolism of two lives becoming unified in such a way as to have recognizable components blended together. Again, I don't quite do it justice but I found it a more striking symbol and message than unity candles.

What was utterly amazing about the day is the bride's mother was the photographer and the bride's father was the caterer.  As if planning and paying for the wedding isn't a big enough job and getting through the day as the parents isn't hectic enough...hey, let's do the two most extensive jobs of the day too!  Wow!  Just WOW!  Anyway, here's a "cakescape."

Mr. Lime is known for his ability to make a game out of anything to occupy his time when he gets bored.  I've seen him challenge the kids to creamer/sugar packet stacking contests in diners many times.  He's also been known to build catapults with cutlery and send small items flying.  During the reception after he finished his hors d'oeuvres  he needed to entertain himself until it was  time for dinner.  Here is his cutlery sculpture.

The bride and groom goofing around.  Yep, I encouraged it.  They were happy to oblige  me.  I figured they had enough of the sit still and smile nicely photos even if they were deliriously happy.

And finally. just a perspective of the bouquet resting on the table with the champagne glass and bride in the background. My attempt at something capturing several elements in a slightly different way. I kinda like it.

My oldest was a bridesmaid a few weeks ago and the couple also did the sand thing. It must be the latest thing, to replace the unity candle. I was also shocked afterwards to learn that the bride's mother had made all the food for the reception. That is just CRAZY!

And your cake and bouquet shots are just gorgeous.

Glad you're still finding joy somewhere. Weddings usually have a good vibe going on. I like the sand. Never heard of that before.

Of course, the best wedding I ever attended was mine. Heh, heh. I'm serious, though. The only downside was our plates kept getting taken away. We'd be served something, take a bite, then get called to visit with someone or for a pic. While we did that, the plate would vanish.

We went out for pizza after, as neither of us got to eat much. At the pizza place, we knew the owner, who asked us "So, what have you guys been up to?" When we told him we had just come from a wedding that afternoon, our own, he thought we were messing with him at first.

We finally persuaded him that we were completely serious, and the pizza was free that night.

Wow, I love the sand idea. If ever re-wed Mr. Jazz we're so doing that.

I really hope that we can be at a wedding with you and Mr. Lime sometime. Mr. Lime and I could really have some fun together, I think. . .

Do they do the 'clinking glasses' thing to get the couple to smooch, out your way?

I think it was my 10-yr HS reunion, where the couple that took the prize for 'Newliest-Wed' walked into the reunion still in bridal dress & tux, coming straight over from their wedding reception. . . Don't know if I'd have done that, even if my wedding HAD been in town. . .

I love the cakescape.. nicely done. You have interesting perspectives just as the bride and groom had customs.

I've been to weddings where photography (even with flash) is acceptable during the ceremony. I know what you mean about feeling that it would be rude and I used to feel that way, too.. but got over it. It offers the family various perspectives of the event... when photographers share their best shots. I've learned that "photography permitted" really mean "photography encouraged.. and please share." ;)

I really like that mixing sand thing. Wish we had thought of that for our wedding!

Love the sand idea!
Lime, I seriously think you should attempt to sell that last photo to a stock agency...it is very special.

There was a picture of Hannah and my sis in law at her wedding that they sold, for a nice amount, that may have been used in some stock photo situation and they pay very well!

Ghetty. Thats who you wanna sell it to. I am not kidding

I absolutely love the photo of the flowers at the end. Love it. Gorgeous work! Shows so much hope and adventure - especially with the soft shadow of the bride behind it.
