Diana-isms Again

She's been home only about 24 hours and already we've had a couple of exchanges that crack me up.

D: So the name Roy, is that short for something?
Me: Like what?
D: I don't know.  Royseph? Royger? Roybert? Roycliff?

I was laughing too hard to be able to tell her it's derived from the French word "roi" meaning king.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When  I took her to the local Greek restaurant for take-out.
D: Oh, man.  I wish it was Wednesday or Saturday so I could have the lamb dinner special!
Me: Sorry, find something else you want.
D: I want lamb.  It's so yummy!  It's my favorite!
Me: Well, I am glad you're in touch enough with your Greek roots to appreciate good lamb.
D: I am!  I see a fluffy little lamb and I want to KILL it so I can eat it!
Me: I don't think that is quite the reaction most people have when they see lambs.
D: I can't help they are so delicious I want them on my plate!
I thought she'd weep for joy when the counter guy told her that although they didn't have the weekly dinner special they did have lamb souvlaki today.
so i take it she didn't cry when bambi's mom got killed...probably would have shot old yeller too....
no, she did not cry over bambi's mother. (i however, have vivid memories of nearly needing to be dragged out of the theater due to my own hysterics at a tender age when i saw the movie the first time) old yeller made her tear up though.
No need to be coy, Roy. . .
I have known a 'Royston' who went by 'Roy', in my short life. . .
And I will pray for her future husband. . .
She's a hoot, for sure! I hated the ground lamb in Turkey...was okay with chops. Byron notes a distinct difference in the lamb we get here in the States versus there--it's much more gamey in the Greek/Turkish region.
She is a hoot! I think I like the idea of Royman. Sounds sort of classy.
Reminds me of Alvin (of chipmunk fame) who confused cantaloupe with antelope and called them a "deer little something to eat!"
I've been around people all my life who hunt and eat Bambi on a regualr basis. It no big deal to me and in fact when I hear the word "venison" I can usually be found running towards the source.
However, I know many people have never hunted and cringe with horror at the idea of such a beautiful creature being killed.
This brings up the incident I watched at one of the Disney parks a few years back. My family and I were standing in a long line waiting to ride one of the attractions. As we went through the maze along the wall were pictures of scenes from Disney movies, one was a poster of the grownup Bambi. A group a little ahead of us started talking about Bambi's antlers and how nice they were, which quickly lead into speculation of how much the deer weighed and how long it would feed the family.
Not much more than that was said by the hunters but it was enough to upset the group between them and my family. The idea of Bambi being hunted for food so disturbed the mother of that non-hunting group she broke out into tears and left the line to save her child from hearing the talk.
I not only join her in her desire to eat fluffy white lambs, I like mutton, so I want to eat the parents, too.
Next time you get up this way, bring her along. We have a wonderful Greek place just down the street from us, named Demos, that serves absolutely magnificent shish kabob. My mouth is watering now just thinking of it.
And that, in a nutshell is why I love Diana. She's her mother's daughter.
Ok, that is absolutely hysterical! My eldest has always spoken in an exaggerated way such as that. I think she and Diana would get along famously.
Mary had a little lamb.
It was delicious.
craig, i also knew a roydan
jocelyn, i might like it then. i don't mind the gameyness of venison
silly rabbit, royman sounds like a superhero :)
beach bum, i can imagine the scene al too well. it's sort of the way things go between born and bred locals here and the nooyawkuhs who have moved here. only the transplants don't cry, they yell at you for being savage. it can't be really infuriating.
daryl, glad to have given you a good morning guffaw ;)
suldog, now my mouth is watering too!
haphazard, she is indeed. lol
bijoux, i imagine they would get along very well then!
tim, here's a napkin, your chin is a bit greasy ;)
Reminds me of a t-shirt I saw once...
If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?
And the flipside is kind of funny too:
Love vegetables. Don't eat them.
A couple of Jen's brothers hunt, so our freezer is usually well-stocked with venison, As a result, we really don't eat all that much beef. . .
And I am reminded again of the scene from the movie The Frisco Kid (Gene Wilder / Harrison Ford; one of my absolutel favorites, btw), in which Gene Wilder is chasing a prairie chicken around, saying, "I don't want to hurt you, I just want to eat you. . ."
I have known a Royal who went by Roy. But that's the only longer version I ever heard.
I like lamb, too.. the meal and the critter. Hard to reconcile. :/ She's a riot, that girl of yours.
I've known two men named Roy. One was a Leroy and the other a Fitzroy.
