Ingredients for a Good Beach Day

Make sure you have a reclining beach chair.  It's nice for when you want to snooze.  The hat for blocking sun is also helpful.

If you're a fair-skinned red head you may want to opt for the full-towel burqa when the sun becomes too intense.

Make sure you have someone to deliver merlot to you when you become parched.  If a cabana boy is not available a generous step-uncle is a nice option.

A noodle is good for floating around the river and not too cumbersome to schlep to the beach.

Make sure you have your camera ready for dramatic pre-storm shots of the sky.  I'd also have to say a nice roofed golf cart is handy for hightailing it off the beach just before the lightning reaches your side of the river.

Make sure to bring a sense of humor so you can laugh when one of the pictures makes it look like a tiny person is standing on the back of your father's chair so she can pick your head for lice.

And if you don't like my suggestions this is all Diana and I have to say...

Good times...good times...

One item my wife bought a couple of years ago is a godsend for spending a day on the beach. It's a small sun shelter shaped like a clam that can be positioned 180degrees. Its keeps the sun off of us from morning to late afternoon.

Well thank you Lime. Now I can safely go to the beach. All I need is a generous step uncle!

Wunnerful, wunnerful. . .

Those tiny lice-picking people are really handy to have around, I bet. . .

And Diana looks all ready for a trip to Yemen. Do they allow powder-blue burqas in Yemen?

And that's a REALLY wide river, when you can't see the other side. . .

stephen, years of practical experience distilled into a single blog post!

beach bum, with a moniker like yours you ought to have lots of great ideas. i could have used one of those contraptions when my kids were small.

haphazard, i'd share mine if it helped

craig, I could have used the nit pickers a couple months ago! and the river is not so wide that you can't see across. there's a point and another river on the other side. we could just see the lightening and hear the thunder getting closer and closer as we watched the sky.

daryl, thanks! we have other pictures of playing with her hair to make it stand straight up.

Great photos, and I absolutely love the "head lice" shot! So, I notice that after the Merlot you changed suits and you're facing the other way. That's some strong Merlot!

Are there really any bad beach days, I mean other than if you're a Marine?

Great series of photos. Looks like a very fun time was had by all. And where do you hire those tiny grooming people?

Any time spent by the water can soothe a soul. But you know how to do it right!
I want a mini lice picker!
What river is that? Reminds me of my old river, but I know its not.

Oh, I want one of those tiny people. I've never had lice, but I do live with a dog and she attracts her share [and more] of small critters.
