Friday 55 & Da Count

FRIDAY 55

Perfectly coiffed-check
Tastefully accessorized-check
Dressed for success-check
Enthusiastic attitude-check
Air of confidence-check
Alright, off I go to conquer the world and dazzle the masses.
Look at all these people!
I have to be where? When?

Gees, kindergarten is absolutely exhausting!

*Click the pic to make it big enough to fully appreciate the difference in the 2 shots. My mom tells the story of how I skipped off so confidently the first day of kindergarten and then trudged home completely wiped out. She only intended to take the 'before' picture but when she saw me coming home she ran for the camera to document the effects of the day in the 'after' picture.

DA COUNT

I have several photos from my mom's old albums scanned into my computer. Apparently Tuesday was set aside as a day for folks to share dorky pictures of themselves. I certainly don't feel compelled to participate but in looking for the picture above I found an awful lot of evidence of childhood dorkiness. Serious dorkiness. In case I think I have outgrown my dorkiness, I have 2 teenage daughters who are compelled to remind me of my current dorkiness on nearly an hourly basis. Tie dye, my Birkenstocks, my unruly mop of hair, my tendency to dance in public places if good music is playing, it all qualifies me. Hey, I say if you hear 'Play that Funky Music, White Boy' while ordering your Mesquite Chicken hoagie from Quiznos you GOTTA shake your groove thang. 'Love Shack' plays in the frozen food aisle of the grocery store? You bet I'm gonna boogie. Oh yes, I forgot, phrases like 'shake your groove thang' and 'boogie' are also dorky. Well, too bad. I'm celebrating and counting being a dork this week.

*The Felix the Cat purse in the above picture was too subtle a form of dorkiness so for reading this far you get, absolutely free of charge and without further obligation, an extra picture of me in all my dorky childhood glory. If you are not completely satisfied simply click to the next blog, but keep the memory of my dorkiness as my free gift to you.

** If you are REALLY needing more dorkiness check that link up in the Friday 55 if you haven't already.

Love the before and after theme. You do look like you're rather exhausted!

Like you said, being a dork is not nessecarily a bad thing. It just means you are different ... in a good way. Love your soung choices and you know what, if I were to see you shaking your grove thang in the grocery store all it would do is bring a smile to my face. Life is to short not to enjoy yourself when ever you can.

Oh and dork ... I think not. I have a couple of pictures of me somewhere that will make anything you may have of you look like a beauty queen, promise. I cornered the dork market for sure.

Mona said...

How absolutely Cute! I do not think there is any dork there! You look witty wild wonderful as usual!
I love these pictures. Make me want to rush to my mother's place to raid the old family albums!

Felix The Cat was cool! Whenever he gets in a fix he reaches into his bag of tricks! Actually that's exactly as much as I remember about Felix. I remember nothing elkse about the show though I watch it religiously as a kid I'm told. Weird because I remember so much about my childhood but that got blocked somehow. The before and after picture cracked me up. The bottom picture? I...I just...I don't know what to make of it.

keyser said what I was gonna~ the wonderful, wonderful cat~ love the pics :)

It simply would not do for both of us to be at the grocery at the same time~ lol..

My daughter has learned that if she wants mama to buy her some groceries~ she has to put up with it and completely ignores me~ with good grace of course :)

S said...

OMG I thought that was a little boy~
You remind me of Rufus in that picture, in a scruffy young boy sort of way, if that makes any sense....

Thanks for playing and have a great weekend Lime!

Absolutely priceless. And bless your mother for having the good sense to snap that second picture of you after your long, hard day.

It seems a given that if you (or anyone else) is to share images from their childhood, there would be more dorkiness to be found than not.

Those little Limes may say you are dorky now, but they will soon change their mind and come to appreciate how cool and unique and wonderful their mother actually is (though I sense they may already know).

lime said...

barman, thanks! the real question is woudl you dang along in the produce section?

mona, oh i hope you DO rush to your mother's photo albums. i wanna see lil mona

top cat, uh oh...you've been reading up on my quiz results at m's haven't you? LOL

kfarmer, oh i soooo have to go grocery shopping with you!

s, girl, you have rufus on the brain! you can't tell inthat pic because my mom pulled my hair up in a bun, but i had waist length hair!

For some reason, clicking your pics never seems to work for me. So if anyone else has the problem, they can click this.

Its amazing how much you grew in the 13 years since these were taken.

Good GAWD! You were a beautiful babbie! Glad your boobs got bigger, even if you're still the same height. *snicker* And Felix the CAT? You had impeccable taste too! Glad to see some things stay the same no matter how old you get. *Snort* Love ya doll!

lime said...

pauline, certainly no one warned ME how tiring it would be!

charles, thanks both for the link and the obvious flattery ;)

tommy, ok, the mental image of me as a kindergartner with 36DDs is just disturbing! LOL and would you have decked bobby wright for defiling felix the way he did?

moose, you are a woman after my own heart!

david, thanks, avagoodone yourself, mate

flash, hehehe, it really does doesn't it?

First time visitor here,
I LOVED the cute K pictures but the DORKY picture was awesome! It left me wanting more :)

If I knew how to scan my photos, I would show you a true "uni -brow" like no other dork in town.

Jocelyn said...

The kindergarten "before" and "after" photos are hilarious. My cousin's daughter famously came home from her first day of kindergarten wearing only one shoe.

Kinder is a tough joint.

Hey, every week is Celebrate the Dork week for me!

snowelf said...

Hey ya Lime,

I'm all caught up on your blog!! I truly enjoyed your Back to School Post! I remember my own evaluation of my high school teachers and it brought back tons of memories!!

I [heart] Felix the Cat. :)

Happy Weekend!

It's the look of I am NEVER going back to school again! However that use to me the before and after before I even LEFT the house. My mom could dress me up and as soon as I would leave the room it looked like I had been struck by a train...lol!!!

Kindergarten IS hard work!!

Paul Champagne said...

Remember the anticipation before the first day of Kindergarten? You had been waiting for years to start school.

Also remember the last days of High School? The anticipation of graduation ... you had been waiting for years for school to be over.

cathy said...

I wonder what the teacher looked like. LOL.

(M)ary said...

Your mom is a wise woman to record your first day for future posterity. I can see the skepticism in your eyes in the "after" picture. The five year old Lime must have been thinking: " What happened"? or as the kids say "Wha ha?"

Rick Rockhill said...

oh my gosh, what a cute kid you were!

SignGurl said...

You look exactly the same in the face, ADORABLE!

david mcmahon said...

I enjoyed your rejoinder ``aveagoodone yourself''. Does that suggest the fact that you've travelled in Australia long enough to pick up the slang here?

lime said...

gawpo, always so nice when you stop by :)

HAR, very glad to have you drop by and glad you enjoyed.

jocelyn, LOL, to loose a shoe is REALLY something!

snowelf, i could so totally see you and me tormenting teachers....

jillie, that is so funny! your mother, i can imagine her exasperation

paul, you are ABSOLUTELY right on both counts, quite the set of attitudinal bookends, huh?

cathy, her beehive never moved an inch, i'm thinking she must have had a flask in her desk though

m, my mother is wise in many ways and i am oh so glad.

savant, i'm blushing

signgurl, blushing again, thanks.

david, unfortunately no, i haven't had the chance to visit oz, but i've had some interest and chatted online with some aussie mates. i'm also the proud owner of one square meter of land in queensland. if you seach my blog with the keyword of 'australia' you should also find some of the posts i did on your fine nation.

Oh Dear - very specific memory of PTFM, WB - college - in the campus snack bar complete with jukebox. We puts in our quarter and plays the record. My friend Bill gets up on the small table and starts dancing. Bill, BTW, is now a Federal Circuit Court Judge with the JAG/Navy. Needless to say he doesn't let me near his children...oh the stories I could tell...

Cosima said...

Lol... but even in the "after" picture, you look cute as buttons.

Mona said...

Lime has been away for the weekend?

I came to take a peek & see her gone...

I hope she is collecting some 'adventures' to tell us about...

lime said...

cooper, PTFM? post traumatic friend memory?

cosima, thanks, lol

mona, yes a very busy weekend.
