Friday55 & Da Count-We Want a Pitcher...

FRIDAY 55

Man, these guys are hitting and I'm walking others. I gotta start throwing strikes.

Doh! Not another walk!

Oh boy, here comes coach. Now I'm in for it. "Hey, Isaac. I was wondering...who's the prettiest girl in school?" Huh? Um....well, Julie is kinda cute. "Good, think about her instead of how you're pitching."

DA COUNT

If you've ever wondered what they talk about on the mound the above conversation really happened. I also know that another time when Isaac was having a rough time Mr. Lime stomped out to the mound looking a little miffed. He looked Isaac straight in the eye and said, "I want you to remember one thing...Poodles suck!" Isaac giggled. No, that wasn't code for anything. He just tossed a non sequitur in there the same way the other coach asked about pretty girls simply to distract the kid because he overthinks and gets all worked up when he pitches.

I know I counted it last season but again I just want to count coaches who keep things positive and light most of the time. We really lucked out in that regard. Isaac played ball last fall and was put on a team with a couple of testosterone soaked apes for coaches. Those guys were just out for wins at any cost and they often berated players. Isaac hated every minute of being on that team. After that experience it makes us appreciate the coaches we have for regular season even more.

As for the above pictures I have to give credit where it's due. I did not take them. One of the players' mothers has a camera with one of those massive paparazzi lenses and she takes scads of pictures at every game so we can all have great shots of our kids. So I am counting her kindness as well this week.

Your little boy is so adorable! I love to see him up close the first time!

I understand perfectly. Because it happens with me all the time. If you concentrate too hard, you tend to miss...

I remember watching a movie ( I am forgetting the name) it was a beautiful movie about how a coach prepares a winning basket ball team! I loved watching it & can watch it again...

Poodles DO suck!

That's pretty cool! I've had the worst expericences with anything having to do with sports....could've probably used a few coaches like that.

Hey, I lost my dog curry recipe, can you loan me yours?

Those are some great pics of Isaac in motion.

My son wouldn't play this year because last year we got some of those testosterone soaked apes for a coach and Ty refused to play this year and I can't really blame him but I know he misses it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Those are great photos...they make me want to go out and throw a ball.

Yes, yes, yes to positive coaches. They manage to do something very personal without taking it personally.

Now that is a fabulous count! Cool coaches to have and yes... fun should be a requisite in team sports. Cheers!

Enjoyed your 55, I coached baseball for years and could have used that technique. I am not familiar with da count but my 55 is here:

I absolutely believe the conversation on the mound.

Major league pitcher Jim Bouton, in the book "Ball Four", recounted the story of a manager going to the mound to talk to his pitcher. Expecting sage advice, the pitcher listened intently. His manager said, "Check out the rack on that broad in section 34."

I don't mind the paparazzi hanging around my property...as long as they pull the weeds.

That is too funny! If only all coaches could be like that. I had some doosies for coaches too.

Lime, could you do me favor? I'm at work, and can't access G-Man's blog to let him know I played today. Could you please let him know? I'd appreaciate it.

I do the same thing with The Girl before a gym meet. But I usually go with something gross like a poop story (yes - mother of the year right here folks).

My 55 is up too! Have a great weekend :)

testerone coaches do suck! we have one at the level that my husband and i coach. he yells at the kids, he swears at them, and he doesn't make it fun to play their team. a kid from his team come up to my kids all the time and say, 'we beat your team BAD'. hmmm, wonder where he got THAT attitude from??

your son is so adorable, and it's true, when they're not thinking so much about how they pitch, they do much better. we've had to tell our pitchers that. june 14th is our last game and we plan to let everyone who wants to pitch pitch. any guess as to who we're playing?? LOL

thx for the comment on my 55...i do enjoy it when my kids have fun.

What an arm on the kid of yours!! That's an amazing action shot.

Things got even better this year for #1's team as well. The coach did a stellar job in her sophomore year.

Have a great weekend, Lime!

You know why they do that? To change the mindset.

A pitcher will start thinking too much and not letting things just flow. Sometimes, you have to change their mindset. Make them stop over analyzing. Make them stop thinking, and just pitch the dang ball.

Also, a pitcher will start getting frustrated and will start trying too hard. You need to get the pitcher relaxed.

Well, coming from Norway: I have no clue about this sport but the pics was great!
Btw: You call it World Series, don't you?

Wishing you and your family a great end to your week :-)

Makes the "game of life" far more fun to play. I am so glad that you and Isaac can know the satisfaction of letting humor carry away some of living's junk.

Sure do Love Ya!

I remember when I played little league (I was the catcher), the coach would call a time out , so I'd have to run out to meet them at the mound.

One time, he looks at the pitcher and goes "You're doing a great job. It's just that someone in the dugout farted, and I needed to get away. Keep up the great work."
