Werid Wednesday-Coping Skills

My kids have a few very minor chores to do around the house. They rotate who does what each week. This week it was Isaac's assignment to mop a couple of floors. There was a certain amount of complaining over this particular chore and how stupid it is and why can't I do it myself. He did get to it though. Somehow he managed to endure the indignity of being a 12 year old boy doing "housewifey work."

I can't wait to see him scrub out the tub next week when it's his turn to clean the bathroom.

LOL! that is what I am going to tell my son/husband to do the next time I need them to "tackle" one of my written in stone duties, put on the football gear baby!!!

Have a good day!

Housewifey?! I guess Momma's gonna have to live with him until he gets married, then. Or maybe single men have elves who come out at night do these things in their homes.

The football uniform WAS a nice touch, though! Now I'll need to figure out what it takes to get MY crew all on board with their chores...

Oh lord that is too much! Love the outfit! LOL

If you have a septic tank I have a sure fire way to make him DANCE when he mops the floor..Make the kiddo dig up and open the tank to "check the levels"...he won't complain about wifey work again! hehhe yes I was most evil as a Mommers~~

do you have to wear a helmet when you mop the floors????

I Likey ! :)

Its a good idea to have all help around with the housework, specially since hired help is almost non existent in the US!

Actually, you might want to remind him that he may not always have someone around to take care of all those "housewifey" things and being about the do them for himself could just come in very handy when he leaves your nest someday. At least you got him doing this -I always had a huge fight with all three of my kids when it came to learning this stuff but my son, now almost 35, does a pretty decent job of keeping his house relatively clean these days so apparently he learned but just never wanted to show off that he knew this stuff when he lived at home.

One of the things Mr. Logo discovered in the military is that floor mopping ain't just for house wives. That is kind of a handy thing to know, and he is passing that on to my kids. In fact, Thing One will go behind ME and "fix" my mopping job, it's charming.
Unfortunately, that means they don't feel the need to play dress up at chore time, because you know, THAT is way macho :P

What? :O
I am supposed to MOP the floors?

When?
:P
I gots carpets.
Now the next time I get to feeling housewifey, I'm gonna go get on a jersey and helmet to make myself feel more manly...ar ar ar!!!!

BWahahaha!!! Wearing a helmet is a good idea, cause if he slips in the water and falls, his head is protected.

Safety first! :)

Is he Swiffering? A fun way to do this job, if two siblings are available, is to cover one of them in the Swiffer cloths and then the other one can push him/her around the area to be dusted. Expensive as all hell, but probably worth the laughs - at least once.

Do love that he not only put on the helmet, but also the SHOULDER PADS! That's a whole bunch of work to make a point about getting out of some work!

LMAO!!! Oh that's too funny! :) I think kids doing chores is a necessity in building character... I remember when my parents started making us do more around the house and it was constructive. :)

I too can't wait to see what he does next week!

Ah, this is classic. You should send this to Readers' Digest.

Oh, my, now that is manly indeed.

On the post below: Roots Market and Green Dragon Market both have wonderful Sticky buns. PA is a great place for food!

I'd call it a Tom Sawyer moment - nothing housewifey about dust mopping in a helmet - HA HA!

3 Cheers for Isaac!
What a sport :)

Stick to your guns. It is important to teach your kids to take responsibility, and someday when he goes to college and has to live with other people. They will appreciate him having learned how to clean up after himself and take responsibility for the house!

Does he have a mask, snorkel, and fins so he can be properly attired for that job too?

airplanejayne said...

I agree with tim -- maybe snorkel&etc. for bathroom work, tennis garb for dusting, yadayada. And you should photograph them!

Why, when I was a kid I had to get on my hands and knees and scrub the linoleum floor with a horse-hair brush.

In the snow.

Both ways.

And I was damn grateful.

Did the helmet and pads make it less painful?

Woman. Why do you still have your word verification on? Are you trying to torture me? UGH!

;)

Nothing like getting use to the feel of your equipment. Is he going against the grain? Be nice to those hardwoods.

LMAO LMAO @ Stickboy!!

BWAHAHAHA. You know he'll be in scuba gear next week. Our kids have to do garbages. They need a hazmat suit, right?

Maddy said...

Long handles do it for us too.

Sounds like you could outfit him with your old fencing gear for scrubbing the oven.

Thanks for your comments on teh Olympics.

A sensible lad, hope he didn't "fumble" the mop.
