Da Count in 55-Autumn

Golden light slants through the trees
dressed in blazing costumes.
Crisp air blows through the limbs as the orchestra tunes.

Gusts send a thousand ballerina leaves
into pirouetting descent
until they rest upon the ground
amid the gently rustling applause
of those awaiting the finale.

The curtain of night falls
upon one more autumn performance.

This has to be one of my all time favorite flash fictions, although not fiction at all.
You have a lovely yard too and your photos just breathless.
I like how you show us close up snippets and not just postcard scenery....
The ballerina leaves dont pirouette around here, they more like assault you in huge gusts like the hippopotamus dancers in Fantasia!

Lovely lovely lovely!

Huh. The purple leaf actually was purple, with no retouching? That is pretty cool! In the first shot, same for the... acorn top?

Brilliant! Magnificent! The text and photos are inspired. We're talking dark chocolate, aged wine, top notch stuff!

lime said...

s, now YOU have replace the imagery with a really funny thought! i will be thinking of those hippos in tutus all day! lol

suldog, no retouching of any kind. those are the sights as i saw them through the viewfinder. no tricks. and yes the top one is an acorn top

Totally cool photos and words - I love the purple leaf and the blue sky! And I still love to find beautiful leaves and bring them inside, like I did when I was a kid.

I wear rose colored glasses at all times so viewing the purple leaf photo catapolted me back to the 60s where I met Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and hung out at a love in. Either that or the recipe for neighbors brownies last night was more complex than I realized...thanks for the trip.

Lovely photos! Fall colors are so inspiring! We had a wonderful fall but the color show came to an abrupt end with a windstorm this week...and now the front lawn is full of leaves again......

You know I love the golden beauty of fall and you've captured it soooooo well - looks very much like it is in Norway right now actually.

Btw: Sorry I haven’t been around for a while - fall is a busy season - please doont feel neglected.

Wishing you a great end to your week :-)

That's an amazing 55! Love the ballerina leaves. ;-) The photos are great too. The first one looks like it's from the view of someone waking up from a mossy pillow.

You are amazing - talented in your eye for a picture as well as your way with words. Fall is my favorite time of the year - and you have just confirmed it in perfect presentation. I think you must have a career somewhere after the kids have flown... which has to do with writing and illustration. Thanks for making my evening.
