Saturday was the first game of a new season of ball for Isaac. It's his first year on a new team with a new set of caches and teammates. It was also the first game on a brand spanking new field. There were several games scheduled but Isaac's team was in the first game. They brought out three men who were instrumental in the early years of local Little League and Babe Ruth baseball to throw out the ceremonial first pitches on the new field. Since Isaac was to be the starting catcher for his team he was sent out to catch one of the pitches. He's the one in the red shirt.
We wondered how he'd do in his first game on a big field as opposed to the smaller Little League ones but he had no problems getting the ball wherever it needed to be. His team seemed to have some good camaraderie, which was also really nice to see. Hopefully, that will continue throughout the season and there aren't any terrible egos on the team. Oh, and they were all glad to find out they weren't the team sponsored by a local day spa. It was generally agreed that no one envies the group of 13-15 year olds walking around with hats and shirts touting the best place to get a facial and mani-pedi. At least those poor guys didn't have to wear pink.

My son no longer plays baseball, but I have fond memories of watching him play. Enjoy his season, Lime.
great looking swing! front foot is planted, eye on the ball - i need to print this out and show it to my son
What fun! And what a fabulous memory for you and for Isaac. A day of firsts. Glorious post Lime. Thank you for sharing this. I miss having kids on teams. But I've got grandkids who will be coming up... can't wait!
Go Issac!!! What a way to start a season! :)

I know less about Baseball than I do about most any other sport but what comes across clearly is the fun and camaraderie. Lovely post.
Oh, Meesh. . .
I grew up in a baseball-playing town; our Little League all-star teams reagularly contended for the state championship.
I remember that transition from the Little-League-sized field to the full-sized field, and how we wondered if we could even throw the ball all the way to first base; much less, beat the runner. . .
Isaac is a catcher, eh? I always told my boys that the surest way to get on your coach's good side is to know how to catch. Myself, I simply couldn't keep myself from flinching whenever the hitter swung the bat. Which, when it comes to catching, isn't such a good thing. . . So, points to yer son for that.
And that swinging pic (is that the aforementioned triple?) - wow, nice-looking swing; good weight shift, all that. . . And I see what you mean about those shoulders you keep telling us about. . . ;)
WordVer = 'sanes'; HA! Don't you wish. . . ;)
I don't understand baseball. Neither the concept nor the rules. Give me soccer any day.
cocotte, those memories are warm , aren't they?
furiousball, aww, thanks, is bubs playing this year? best of luck to him
ananda, it seemed to me it should be a really nice memory for him. enjoy your grandkids when they get to the sports :)
snowelf, thanks!
moannie, as far as i am concerned the team spirit, fun and a chance to enjoy the sport is what it's about.
desmond, catching is his favorite. we were glad they didnt' ask him to pitch. he had a couple of fouls too so i don't know if that picture is his triple or a foul. (i took a bunch)
jazz, believe me, there is so much i DON'T understand. it has taken me years to get this far ;)
Baseball is fun!
What great memories. In my 6 years of playing softball my parents never were able to make it to a game, but it was some great memories for me anyway.
On another note, I have a special treat for you waiting on my blog! (No, it's not chocolate.)
Play Ball!!!
Good form!
My son plays ball, too. I love this time of year! Thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful opening day for him!!! Awesome!
Awesome job!!! A Young Babe Ruth in the making!!!!
Game ball? Way to go, Isaac!! That's cool to hear that the team gets along so well. These are good times.
What a great thrill, to be the opener on a brand-new field! I've never done that in 45 years of playing. And, to be the one guy who scores the first run? That will be a story to tell in years to come.
He looks like he has very good form, Lime. I'm impressed.
It's wonderful when your child does well and feels good about himself. Those are the moments a parent treasures.
Oh my goodness it looks like he has grown a foot since the insect attack video you posted a few months ago. I am so glad that baseball season is here even though my son still won't play.
Congrats to Isaac!
Hope you all are doing well. :)
How very awesome for your son! My kids have never been into playing baseball, but just watching them play the sports they are into is exciting for me because when they really get a handle on the game, I'm amazed by the level of talent they have coming from a non-athletic set of parents!
s, i have learned to enjoy it and see the fun in it.
princess, i'm glad it held great memories for you...headed over to your place in a bit
gman, playing!
lecram, thanks
cheffie-mom, it's a fun time
solitaire, it was a good day for sure
dragonfly, lol, he'd prefer to be david wright ;)
craver, i am hoping the team gets along this well all season
suldog, well, the other team was first batting so they scored the first run on the field, but my boy got the first for his team. thanks for the kind owrds on his form
dr john, it is a good feeling
breazy, he has grown about 6 inches since last year this time!
fadkog, any athletic ability my kids have comes from their dad. i have zero skill that way.
Baseball already? I thought that was a summer sport?
I don't care how much the overpaid bubbleheads in the Major League make, the best in baseball is watching kids Issac's age play.
Lime- how fun, you must be proud! Quite a budding athlete there...enjoy the season.
Yes, LL can be fun with the right people in charge, We were lucky that when our local organization went south (6th grade) it was time for carrie to start school ball and it was more organized & fair. She was catching by 8th grade ( 8 yrs of ball!)and was blessed to experience a local championship.
She converted to soccer in HS, i was very upset that i had to learn something new. That darned individuality. :)
I hope you guys enjoy every minute of LL!
citizen, yep, his season will be done before july 4th
beach bum, i could not agree more
savant, i was really tickled for him
misticblu, the coaches attitudes can make or break the season and i don't mean win/loss record but just whether or not it's enjoyable at all.
Did he grow a foot over the winter?!?!
My goodness! He has grown so much! Enjoy sweet lime, I still miss the days of ball, sunshine and good fun :)
