Friday 55-How I Know Vacation Is Over

FRIDAY 55

It is written,
"How good and pleasant it is
for brothers to dwell in unity."

A summer of strife between my daughters,
near daily arguments,
screaming matches,
threats,
icy silences,
eruptions spilling over
into angry phone calls to me at work.

Just for the record, girls,
that verse does NOT
specifically exclude peace between sisters.

Seriously, this is getting old. I haven't really said anything about it but the girls' readjustment to being back under the same roof has been far from smooth and every time I think they've found peace they go another round with each other. They've each taken turns being the instigators. I'm exhausted by the endless conflicts which seem to escalate each time. Being called at work in the middle of one of their epic blow ups was just over the top. I'm fed up.

I'm supposed to be counting good stuff here so I guess the VERY fleeting moments of cease fire are what I'm counting.

You are singing the lament of so many mothers. With me it was boys. If I had a dollar for every phone call that began, "Mo-om!"... I know you can hear the tone and pitch in that.

A friend of mine has the same situation - and it's just so nerve-wracking - she has 3 girls...
In between my two girls is a boy - think that makes it easier for them
Lots of strength and patience!

Mine are much younger, of course, but I can still relate. Those two can fight over anything, and it's almost always something dumb.

I told them once: if there were a dog turd on the lawn you two would find a way to fight over it.

If it makes you feel any better
My ONE girl fights with herself constantly...it is mighty painful watching her battle herself over her hair, acne, and "how fat she is"
(LR is 5'5" 100 pounds if that helps with the pain of all of this, the way teens think...they are fat at 100 pounds? I just...)

Lime, can this be really worse than that terrible 13's, one right after the other? Tell me it aint so...
oh yeah and the instigating...
LR will stomp around the house, or play drums on the furniture, slam doors, whatever she can to get some good ol negative attention!

ARGH! I sympathize, and I wish you the best. Make sure you hide in your room a lot, I do!

Oh, man, I so know what you're talking about. Sometimes I think that my kids get bored and 'stir the pot' just to stay stimulated. . . And I have also gotten those calls at work; which I think I have managed to convince the kids, really don't work to their advantage. . .

I know you aren't much into the 'math thing' (and I don't mean to make this all about me), but with eight kids, there are 28 different one-on-one relationships between them; or, 28 separate 'theaters of bickering'. It's a wonder we ever have any peace at all. . .

Good 55, tho; that bit from Psalm 133 doesn't get nearly enough practical application, does it?

And I thought it was a pain keeping my son from beating on his little sister.

Well written 55.

I have a sister, and though it's in the distant past, that sounds VERY familiar...

God bless you all. Maybe you should be happy you are working hehehe. My sons went through this for a while, it usually goes over....

Its just sisterly love...thats what my kids always called it. They love in quite an unusual way of course hahaha.

Oooooh, I remember my older sister coming home from college.
Yikes

Here's hoping they get themselves sorted!

Give them a job and make them complete it together...make sure it is a task that will take some time. Or the other one that worked was to lock them out of the house!!! Yep!! They argued and I literally locked them out... as hot as it's been lately they'll pull together quickly to get back in!!! :) Good luck!

Dang. I'm so sorry you're having to weather this. I'm actually surprised, consdering the bereftness last fall...and I have this idea that once the college years begin, they enter a more adult phase...but I guess maybe they both have to be in college for that to happen. It does seem kids have to get far enough away from each other, once college startts, to see each other across a distance--and then they can start re-negotiating their childhood relationship into something that will stay the course 'til the grave.

Hope peace negotiations are well underway. Summer is much too hot to argue.

Sometimes I think the reason God gives us children is to produce character in us and also to keep us humble. Hang in there, Lime.
