Slice of Lime-Reward for Good Behavior

I have been a lifelong nail-biter.
I know it's not a nice habit.
I know it makes my hands look terrible.
Every now and then I could string together a few weeks of not chewing on them and then some ragged edge would form or some crisis would hit and I'd tear them apart.  Oh, sure, when I demolished my left arm and couldn't get my hand to my mouth those nails grew but that's sort of cheating.  I've manage not to chew them up for a couple of months.  I've taken care of chips by cutting and filing rather than gnawing them to the quick.  I'm not a nail polish type but I decided I had earned a groovy little ring when I saw one I liked that was on sale for super cheap. Seriously, some funky, artsy sort of thing is more my style than a pricey rock to flash around.  Big surprise, right?
Anyway, here it is highlighting an hand full of unbitten nails.

Wow! The ring is beautiful & so are the nails!

Congratulations!

Use nailpolish, that will keep away the biting them. It does not taste that good.

I have the same bad habit but I seem to gnaw on them while driving. So by the end of a road trip I have nubbins. Love the ring!

Good job! I have never been a nail biter, but I heard that if you read about the bacteria that is under your nails, you will never bite again!

Good for you! Maybe I should start biting my nails so I could stop biting my nails so I could get me such a ring...

Just came across this last night:

Some people manicure their nails,
Some people trim them neatly,
Some people keep them filed down,
I bite 'em off completely.
Yes, it's a nasty habit, but
Before you start to scold,
Remember I have never, ever
Scratched a single soul.

Hi. . . my name is Craig. . . and I'm a nail-biter. . .

Bored or anxious sounds about right. See, I've got this long commute, and all that time in the car, just going back and forth. . .

Anyway, it's not about me. . .

Congratulations! I'm so proud of you! Nice lookin' nails. And the 'artsy' ring is you. . . ;)

Love the ring! Congrats on the restraint :) Your nails look wonderful. Now, would you get over here and scratch my back?

Perhaps a regular routine of buffing and polishing might deter you from returning to your nail-biting habit. After all, it's hard to bring oneself to deface something that looks so nice.

Kudos to you for doing it the natural way! I'm also a nail-biter and worry wort on top of it. I cheated and got my nails done... solar falsies. But it enabled me to actually let them grow and stopped the chewing.

I like the ring! It is tres lime!

Nice job Lime. Now if you just paint the little one red, you'll look like a coke dealer.

Good for you! Somehow I've never been tempted to bite my nails - 'm a knuckle-cracker instead.

craig, don't bite and drive...

g-man, *scratch scratch*

jericho, i'll scratch yours if you scratch mine ;)

eric, i got a little buffer thingy to shine em up, but i'll skip the polish. lol @ the word veri!

ananda, i had a professional manicure once and after i took the polish off when it chipped my nails peeled and were thinner than ever.

phaedrous, ya know i've clipped all the others but i let the one pinkie grow thinking it would be kind of funny to do that. great (or sick) minds think alike.

secreat agent woman, yeah, i'm a knuckle cracker too

But aren't fingernails a good source of potassium? I fear for your nutritional health without that supplement.

Growing up down here nail biting was less a bad habit and just the way most guys cleaned the grease out from under them. Of course that is changed now with some guys going to the professional nail salons, which please forgive me but my liberal attitudes and beliefs aside it looks surreal to see a guy getting his nails filed and groomed.

Congrats on not biting your nails! I used to bite my nails... then my parents made me start wearing shoes. ;-)

I like the new look of your blog.

What a beautiful ring... but the woman who wears it is still more impressive.... oh.. and nice nails!!! Bet your hubby likes them!

LOVE that ring and good job on the nails... I used to bite mine for years but now... I don't know, stuffing my face with food is more preferable. I guess that's why my fingers resemble kielbasa, therefore cute little rings never fit my big fat fingers. :-(

Oh good for you. They look lovely. My nails rarely grow but every couple of summers they just do. I have no idea why but they get long and strong especially on my right hand. They sometime in October they'll start to break again. They're in that growing process right now. It's a good nail season. ;)
