That's Education!

Calypso will be having her wisdom teeth out today so depending upon how that goes I may or may not be scarce in the blogosphere.  When she was collecting assignments from various teachers she ran into her film studies teacher from last year.  He asked if she'd be getting any good drugs after the ordeal.  She said she expected to.  He then loaded her up on several films he said were either best watched or just fun when one is completely stoned.  She said he also made some specific recommendations as to which painkillers go best with which movie.

The movie list includes the following:

City Lights

Wordplay

This is Spinal Tap

Tod Browning's Freaks (which came with a special warning from the teacher saying viewers should either be high as a kite or completely sober to see this because it is completely....freaky.  I suppose Calypso will watch it stoned and I will watch it sober then we can compare notes.).

I dare the government to measure this sort of education on a standardized test.  If they even try I'll suggest they've OD'd on some sort of drugs themselves.

As always prayers and good thoughts for ease of procedure and recovery would be greatly appreciated.

Film studies is one thing but my brother-in-law, who took seven years to get a simple four year business degree by flunking out of college several times, once bragged he took a semister course to bring his GPA up that examined the the first three Star Wars movies, episodes 4-6.

Told my son I would put a foot up his butt if he pulled something similar.

Ugh......wisdom teeth.....hope she fares well.

And that teacher? Totally inappropriate and out of line, IMO.

Saw them all except Wordplay.

I did not inhale!

I'll admit to being profoundly ambivalent about 'Film Studies' classes (even tho I think Jen actually took one, which counted for her freshman English requirement). At least, as I've known them to be taught. . .

When I was in college, there was a Comic Book class that, if you were lucky enough to get into it, also counted for the freshman English requirement. But even among the students, who of course loved it, it was widely regarded as a joke. . .

Spinal Tap was pretty funny; even tho I wasn't remotely stoned when I saw it. . .

OMG, not good to teach kids about getting high on pain meds.....

But, um, anyway...I hope it goes well, and get lots of ice cream!

What a considerate teacher.. and you rank up there as a blogger to share that info. ;)

Best thoughts always for your Calypso.

That is one excellent teacher she has there. I mean it. He obviously cares about her and what she'll be going through, and he's tried to ease her pain and make her coming day or two more pleasant. What more could you ask of a human being?

As for Freaks, if you've not seen it before, I'd suggest doing so sober. I don't expect you're the type to be upset by it, but added emotional baggage from pharmaceuticals could make it an experience some people might wish to forget. You do know that many of the actors are actual sideshow performers with some fairly significant physical lacks (or additions), right? The overly empathetic might find it grueling.

My son had his wisdom teeth out a few months ago. All the drugs did was make him want to sleep afterwards.

I would also recommend the movie
Big Fish as a good one to watch while high on painkillers.
And if she has any extra happy pills send them my way! (Ha...ha...jk...the authorities would frown on that.)

interesting that one should be stoned to varying degrees to watch such videos? - Dave :-)

Wait, what??? She is getting some good drugs after getting her wisdom teeth out? All I got was ibuprofen. Sheesh! What a rip off.

I hope all went well and she is recovering as comfortably as possible.

That teacher is a hoot--clearly he knew she's got her head on enough that he could joke around with her and treat her without condescension, as they talked stonage and movie watching. Dr. Strangelove would be a freaky option, too.

Hope the girl is doing well!

Hm. I guess I've been gone longer than I thought. I must add that Yellow Submarine, I am positive, was intended to be watched on acid. In a theatre if possible.

Guaranteed.

I would probably add Eraserhead to that list as well.

I am assuming that Calypso's procedure went well, having heard nothing to the contrary.

Thanks for the timely list! Percoset is my dear husband's friend, right now, and I am going to suggest at least one of these to him!
