Self Medicating

So that 16 lbs I lost in the last two months was not due to my new yoga regimen or attributable as a side effect of a short term medication I was on for an infection. Nope, it's hyperthyroidism which amps up the metabolism like crazy. I've been constantly hungry and eating but still loosing weight, which if you take the night sweats, tachycardia, headaches, and shortness of breath away wouldn't be such a bad thing in my book. I dragged myself through work today since my heart has settled down thanks to the cardiologist I saw Friday. It was less than fun but I survived the utter chaos that comes from having to reschedule all the classes I missed due to my absence last week. The less than useful nurse at my doctor's office who seriously mishandled the way she communicated my mammogram results last spring is once again demonstrating her great competence in that she can't seem to get her act together in getting me scheduled for the next set of tests to determine WHY my thyroid has gone insane and thus determine a course of action for treating the problem so resolution of this problem is delayed for a few more days. Oh joy, oh bliss. I had to pick up some food for dinner and breakfast and I saw something else out of the corner of my eye. Although I am the nutrition nut in the house and rarely buy this kind of crap it looked good and I figured I'll never have metabolism like this again (since treating hyperthyroidism tends to lead to hypothyroidism and a major slowing of metabolism and excessive weight gain...can hardly wait for that) so what the hell.

I really hope I can somehow handle a yoga class soon (it's a big challenge with the shortness of breath) so I can deal with this complete frustration in a healthier way.

Well, all the symptoms aside- I'm having some of those Mint Oreos this very minute- and they do indeed cure many things. Or, at least, you don't worry about them for a moment!

Mint Oreos....hm...like regular Oreos but with toothpaste. Hyperthyroidism is nothing to mess with....I learned that by watching House.

It's so unfair that losing weight is only doable when things are going wrong with the body. Enjoy the Oreos.. and wishing you an easy solution to the thyroid situation.

Those Oreos are straight from the DEVIL! I'm not lying. They are Satan's snack of choice. I think I could gain 50 pounds if I allowed those into my house. I could eat a whole bag in one sitting. Seriously. I don't even allow myself down the aisle in the store where they are held.
I swore a year ago that I had hypothyroidism. I gained so much weight for no reason whatsoever. Turns out my hormones were just all out of whack (even though my thyroid was fine-?????). Anyway, might as well take advantage of that hyper as long as you have to put up with the nastiness from it, right?
Eat one, girlfriend. And eat some for me.

Oops. Eat ON is what I meant to say.
Eat ONE. HAHAHA!!! How stupid is THAT????

Hey, at least a little blessing already. You lost 16 pounds, and now you've been given a clean bill of health, at least insofar as your heart is concerned. So, yeah, enjoy the Oreos!

I found some Oreos last summer that were to DIE for!!! They were filled with sherbert flavored filling...I can't remember what flavor now...maybe more than one flavor....and my son and I ate three packages. Then they didn't have them anymore! Sad day!

I have not tried the mint Oreos, but if you are looking for Oreos to have in the house that won't tempt you, I advise the strawberry ones. They are nasty!

I know two people who have had thryroid problems. One seems to be doing very well and the other has good days and bad days with her medication. But both have better figures than I!

Mmm Oreos without them living on your hips forever. Go for it!

handle it by moving slowly ... and then rev up to kick that slacker in the butt ... i do not understand people who clearly are incompetent in positions that require them not to be .... GAH ...

Somewhere along the way I went straight to hypothyroidism. My wife and I were going through the motions to adopt our daughter back in 1999, one of them being an intense physical.

My weight has been an issue every since.

I have been known to medicate with an Oreo or two... hasn't helped me lose any weight, though.

What an amusing phonetic coincidence! I suffer from tackycardia. It's only pronounced the same as your tachycardia. Mine is a case of being terminally uncouth.

Enjoy the Oreos, my dear.

Last time I had my thyroid checked it was just slightly elevated. I never did anything about it, but I definitely keep cookies in the house.

First, aww crap, and aww hon. I really hope it all gets figured out without the challenging side effect of weight gain. Ugh.

All my best hopes that you can get back to yoga soon. It'll help you deal with anything.

I have hypothyroidism but was in an artificially induced state of hyperthyroidism thanks to Synthroid, which I found out I can't take. I'm on Armour now, and it works much better for me.
Hypothyroidism sucks, but I'd rather be a quart low and have to take Armour than have to deal with hyperthyroidism. I was only hyperthyroid for a month, and it nearly killed me!
