We Shall See

So yesterday was the big day, my first face to face job interview in 19 years. I was nervous beforehand and felt like throwing up after it all. I felt reasonably calm during the interview, which was loooong. Then again this is the only interview I've been on in forever so what do I know about what's long or short. It seemed long to me. I know I dazzled in a couple areas and fell very flat in a couple. The rest I think I was at least ok. In addition to sitting with the hiring committee, I had to later meet with the library director, who is himself relatively new. He was not messing around and threw a couple of hard balls. He was direct with me so I was fairly direct with him. I know they are interviewing into next week so I won't know anything before that.

Once I got home I kept rolling things over in my mind and trying to wrap my brain around what a monumental shift it will be if I get this job. Then there were a couple of situations that cropped up which sent me right into meltdown mode. Then the self-flagellation commenced.

Ok, no more neurotic silliness. I'm pronouncing this Dance Party day, because that's a good antidote. Everybody dance now! (And then tell me what you think is a good tune to bust a move to. I like this one and Santana's Jingo.)

everybody dance now...i can hear that in my head, who sings that? now it will be in my head all day which is not a bad thing!

hang in there! fingers crossed that the library folk picked up on what a wonderful and intelligent person you are!!

did they ask if you had a blog? did you tell them how consistent you are with your blog, posting and commenting nearly every day? seriously, that is rare! it shows fortitude which will come in handy at the library.

Stop with the self flagellation. If this doesn't work, something else will.

Now dance!

Mary--it's C and C Music Factory and it's in my head now too!! ;)

Lime, I'm busting a move in your honor. And I can't dance. So it's a comical move, but it still counts!!

I repeat. . . they're fools if they don't hire you. . . So - if they don't hire you, you didn't want to work for fools anyway. . .

So yeah - time to dance!

Yeah! They'd be mad not to hire you, imagine the fun, the shake up, the letting the hair down and taking off the glasses and shaking your thing. They won't know what's hit them, madame librarian.

Stop self-flagellating.

Unless it's starting to feel good.

In which case, we can all avert our eyes while you continue.

Okay, you did well. I know you did. But I can also tell you that, if you don't get this job, you (without it being some pat rationalization) should comfort yourself with the knowledge that very rarely does a search/hire process make sense. I've been on reams of search committees, and I've come to realize there's always something else at work beyond "We interviewed. We agreed. We hired the best person." The entire process is imbued with whimsy and conflicting agendas and crazy people with big voices. If you get the job, take it, and be happy. If you don't, just know that the director, or the third person from the left on the committee, had some hidden or small thing that came out big during the post-interview deliberations.

All of which is to say: don't take any bit of it personally, either way. Heh-heh.

Dance Party!!! Yay!!! Anything that my crazy DJ friends play at Circa... it gets me moving... then again I'm known to start dancing to the tune in my head so... yeah.

I hope and pray you're their top choice and in for the job! It would be awesome!!!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you, and remember that - although it sounds cheezy - any interview is good experience. If you are thinking about going out to work full time again, and you don't get this job you still have learned something from the experience!! Now Dance party? Happens in my kitchen all the time...stuck after the Mamma Mia craze, so right now I like "Waterloo" to get my hopping around the kitchen!

Good luck with the outcome. I haven't been interviewed in oh, 30 years. I think I would fail miserably at them nowadays. Fingers crossed for you here.

Like I've said; The are the one who loose something, if the don't pick You!

The vid was great, but you know me; A good tune to bust a move to: Bob Marley and reggae of course :-)

There's something about seeing Morgan Freeman dancing that makes a pretty good day even better! I used to have that group's cassette, and I'm stunned that I don't have that song on my iPod. I LOVE dancing to Scissor Sister's "Don't Feel Like Dancing". You can't help but dance to it!

I hope you hear good news about the interview. I can completely understand how frustrating and scary it can be.

When you have a "sit on the couch and watch ESPN" party, I'll be more than happy to wiggle my fingers.

Best of luck. The worst part is waiting for the phone call.

The Monkey definitely has some moves...

You are a very brave woman Lime. Not only has you put yourself out there in the work place... but you have done so with an audience and had the courage to share your fears and concerns with all of us... that makes you brave indeed in my book.

At times like these... I crank up the music loud and sing at the top of my lungs "Anyway" by Martina McBride.... oh... but first I make sure no one is around!!! Can't carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on!!!! :)

You'll be fine!!! Better than fine!!
